Interesting piece on the persona of Krueger, from someone who has worked closely with him: http://www.lfpress.com/sports/hockey/2012/06/03/19833056-qmi.html
Krueger on Pochettino: "From the first minute we met, we were coming from very similar worlds."
Cannot really add much but the comment "Although there is a solid foundation, the club has tremendous untapped commercial potential," from Krueger made me think he is just sounded like classic business manager bull ****. I just hope that we don't go to the same extent as USA sports teams in terms of commercialism - basically the point where sport comes second.
After the departure of Cortese I do think it was important that we got a chairman with a strong personality. Cortese got a lot of respect and loyalty from some people at the club and Ralph will need to earn that same respect if we're to continue looking upwards. Interesting couple of interviews on the BBC and Saints website. He mentioned reaching our potential within our capacity. Which i'd interpret as we won't be making any serious financial investment. You can't grumble with that attitude and at the same token they've clearly identified the biggest issue holding a club like Southampton back and that's commercial revenue. I have not checked the facts but I doubt we're in the top 10 clubs in England for revenue. If we're to make realistic attempts at being a club consistently challenging for European football then we're going to have to change that and this will have to come from opportunities abroad. See you in Toronto for pre-season
This truly baffles me. Unless he's just going to be a figurehead with someone else calling the shots, this smacks of going with a person she trusts over a person who knows a damned thing.
I am surprised you are baffled. Seems you have solved your own mystery. She may put 'trust' at the top of her list. Quite an important attribute I would say and I don't find that baffling at all. I would say she has taken the option most comfortable to her. Pick someone who on paper has experience in doing this, or pick someone you trust. She has just chosen a different option to one you would have selected that is all, it would seem. Why the bafflement?
Kreuger defined success as achieving your potential. He has highlighted a problem in our commercial development as initially the main problem...more income can mean more and better players, but also means you are self sustaining. To be at the top, you need vast injections of cash as outright gifts because we would never be able to repay it...this is not allowed under the new financial rules. Although the 25 million outstanding on the Academy could be written off as that is permitted. Mauricio likes to say that you never limit how high you can go, but some things are probably out of our reach (at least in the short term). But do you know I don't care. Nicola and Markus wanted us to be an example to the football world of how to run a club...I think this is what Katharina wants. I don't want crash and burn...I want Saints to remain in safe hands, play good football, be admired by others, perhaps win domestic cups, and then one day get into the Champions League (but without setting a time scale on that). I wouldn't worry too much about Kreuger's perceived lack of experience in running a club...an extremely smart man like him will pick up what he needs to know (and he may already know more than some think). We no longer have a totalitarian state...he shares the board with others.
PL do you think the following is OK? An American punched a Chinese man in the mouth and said "That's for Pearl Harbour you bastard". The guy replied "But I'm Chinese." to which the American said "Chinese - Japanese you all look and sound the ****ing same to me". Both the above are unacceptable and offensive. PL you should be ashamed
