I still think the EU is often used as a scapegoat by politicians who support particular policies and but tell the public they have to follow them because the EU says so although most of the time that's bs.

I think that has been settled by the courts now, basically a prisoner can still apply be released on compassionate grounds if they are very old/ill or something like that. To be honest it's become more of a big deal politically than it actually is (or at least in the tabloids). Whether someone should be released aged 103 or never is not going to matter that much.

These, however I do have an inward groan every time a case comes up and I think about the cost of locking them up... but there is no current valid alternative.

I think in America the lengthy legal process and extensive but necessary appeal system means it actually costs more to execute someone than it does to imprison them for life.

In 1999 there were 40 food banks, now there are 400. It's sickening how we send all this aid to other countries when we have people here that need our help.

Foreign lives aren't less valuable than English lives.

I'm for foreign aid, but I don't agree with sending it to countries with growing economies like Brazil and Nigeria.

Can say that in reverse as well. But aid helping the UK poor isn't seen as 'the in thing'.

We should be helping out our own country out first of all.

Yeah I worded what I said wrong, a hell of a lot of countries we send aid to don't need it.

That can't be right, someone on here convinced me that he's a changed man character-wise and would be a great signing.

We might be earning it back if we help them grow and our trade with them benefits.
