http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...hockey-star-becomes-Southampton-chairman.html To be announced today. I'm not too sure how I feel about this. It was said it would be a non-executive role but this is very different. He will be joined on the board by Hans Hofstetter. Les Reed to remain. Well, in any case, all the best and here's hoping we continue where we left off. What is positive is that he's opened talks with Mauricio about a new contract. DTLW
Of course. All those successful ex-football type chair people out there, I don't know why we didn't appoint MLT or maybe Kevin Keegan.
I perhaps feel a bit uneasy, but this indicates that Southampton will remain in Liebherr hands. That's a positive for me. Cortese was also no football man. Will be best to judge Krueger on his decisions and in what he has said he has appeared reasonable. Also, offering Pochettino a new contract is a pretty good first decision in my book.
He doesn't have to know about football in depth to run a football club...he needs to know about business and to have faith in his management team and let them get on with it. People's complaint about Nicola was his tendency to micromanage...only necessary if your staff are crap. This isn't a whim of KL's...she has known this guy for a while (or so I have heard). He is saying the right things, so we might as well believe in him until proved otherwise. What it does tell me is that the club isn't for sale and attempting to extend Mauricio's contract says that the intention is to carry on on the same path. Get Mauricio to sign on the dotted line would be a great start.
He knows about sport, what it means and how to get the best out of people...that's a good start. Just hope the lads don't start punch ups at every game
I am praying to god that he doesn't get involved in trying to get the best out of the players not sure MP would appreciate that.
He says he will give Mauricio room...may be just fine words...but sometime you have to trust people to mean what they say. What else can you do?
I have to say, I'm a little disappointed. I was expecting some kind of rant. Shame on you. As for me, I'm going to wait, and judge him by his actions.
Your right Fran, as fans we have no say which is of course as it should be. Doesn't stop us questioning every decision though, i mean wheres the fun if your like Lamby and just agree with everything thats ever said. No offence Lamby your just to damn nice
Its all very boring on here now day's everyone has seemed to taken i don't give a **** attitude where's the fight gone, i need some contraversy. Bring back Lowe!!!!!!
I think I'm OK with this (sorry for not being more questioning Kitch!). In all the noises coming from the club in the last few weeks the emphasis has been on stability, growth, and backing the manager. If all that leads to MP signing a new contract and being given a hefty transfer budget in the summer I'll be as happy as I've been since Markus bought the club.
The seems to have been a decision made to leak to the Torygraph as per yesterdays story of Potchettino's new contract and the impending news today of our esteemed new chairman. In the Don's day it was the Mail. While both being right wing rags, the Torygraph at least has a reputation for checking facts..
Too much to hope for that his official appointment will be closely followed by MoPo extending his contract? Bit of PR spin?
