Well said Sir I couldn't have put it better myself. No doubt i will be cringing when Weston decides to pull out of a tackle but I think he deserves another shot tomorrow. The same team that finished the game against Crawley will do for me, although Taylor does like to tinker.
Weston pulls out of an awful lot of 50/50 challenges. Also for a winger with pace & probably our best counter attack outlet he has an awful first touch which never helps. Im pleased he was played on the left for the majority of the game because he can at least get to the line and cut it back instead of cutting back inside all the time. I do like Weston but his 'swagger' if you can call it that does make him look like he is not interested sometimes..... Not quite sure why he continues to take corners as he nearly always floats them in and far too close to the keeper and as ive already said in some games he looks like he would struggle to get a bag of cement under control!! Doubt he will start tomorrow night but hope he does and he shows us what we know he can do.
? No. I am happy with the result. We made hard work of it against 10 men - but it appears that, for a lot of people it is all about results. The statistics will show that we won 4-2. It does not show that we were far too negative - but the tactics worked - so I am grateful for the 3 points. As I am given to honesty, I will say that, by his recent standards, Weston had a better game. He was in the right place for his goal - so well done. However, his touches were not 'special' - invariably heavy on too many occasions - hardly a 'blinder'
before tonights game I said to my sons that I wouldn't be surprised if Weston had a decent game and not surprised that he scored ( football's a funny old game ). It doesn't change (yet) my opinion that his overall performances wouldn't merit a new contract. but people never really got to grips with my original complaint - that being cowardice Weston showed in the game v Crawley - but surely that should now be allowed to be forgotten - because I am expected to eat humble pie - whilst others (imho) have not accepted my accusation ( as opposed to my judgement of Weston's footballing ability) - which, may I remind you, was NOT the subject matter of the OP...... the pie is big enough for more than one portion.

LOL - I know people won't like me saying this but i think we have some serious weaknesses in getting forward down that left side. The ball is being played to far forward by Martin for Weston's reach and Weston really has no ability other than pace when under pressure. Did anyone else notice what appeared Lee's frustration at the lack of movement. I'll be amazed if we don't ship Weston out.
Always, forgive me for commenting on this, but could there be a reason for him 'seeming' to pull out. I haven't seen the incident, so I could be very wide of the mark here, but, could it be possible that Weston thought he might not get the ball, and so pulled out to avoid injuring a fellow player?
Resurgam Good morning ! I was at the game (hardly ever NOT at our matches) I CAN understand your suggestion. I need to NOT mention too much my overall assessment of Weston - especially after he scored last light - but too often his 'touch' is heavy (a few times last night as well). In the 'incident' v Crawley Weston again made a heavy touch -to push the ball too far forward as he led the 'breakaway.' The defender has now been given a sporting chance of intercepting the Gills attack. BUT I still feel that at WORST the situation was 50-50. The Crawley defender made an attempt to get the ball - whilst Weston pulled out, skipped over or whatever description you like. the point of the OP was NOT to criticise Weston's footballing ability - but to express my displeasure at his lack of courage in a tackle that others like Lee, Hessenthaler, Paul Smith etc would never have bottled
Thank you for you reply alwaysright. I can understand your frustration. I was young once too and demanded 100% effort. I still do, but with my advancing years, I also try to see every possible explanation as well, hence my post. A lot of Norwich fans have recently ripped into one of our players - Wes Hoolahan - for not celebrating his goal enough when he scored against Aston Villa. You should go and check that thread out. There was no malice in my comment….as I am sure you are aware. It just seemed too good an opportunity to miss and engage in a bit of banter with you 'alwaysright'. With your tag you will always get it so there was no need to explain as I fully understand and, in the main, agree with your observations. Resurgam Happy lot on the Norwich board ! ......... at least we're reasonably respectful on here - even in our disagreements. The issue with Hoolahan is different to Weston. In the Hoolahan situation the OP appears not to have noticed a subtle goal celebration (fist pump) before he was mobbed by his team mates. I get the impression that the OP is more concerned with some 'politics' that exists between the player & the Club. We all have different values. I wear my heart on my sleeve. I am more orthodox in my values and principles - I don't like to see standards lowered - partly because this causes the thin end of the wedge to become slimmer & slimmer. I had written what I have written ( chiefly the bit in red), I accept that others have a different opinion of my accusation of 'cowardice' by Weston - based on how high they have set their individual bars - ( and, trust me - I'm no saint or alwaysright )
Windyrog You've forced me to give you positive rep I don't mind banter - I have taken no offence as any insult hasn't been nasty. I know that you're all just jealous that I registered a username that was always intended to be tongue-in-cheek ---- even if I live up to it ( I have to occasionally get something deliberately wrong for the sake of humility ).
