Some crazy over reactions here. I personally think 7 games is very, very harsh. If a player does it he gets a red card and a 3 game ban. Why should it be different for him?
I think it's slightly worse if a manger does it so have no problem with the ban. Just think it's crazy that some think he should've lost his job.
A manager isn't out there on the pitch getting kicked. He has far less excuse for lapses in behaviour. He really needs to set an example. Of course Newcastle should have sacked Pardew. If you headbutt someone at the photocopier you're out of a job.
He has got previous and managers are supposed to set an example, it's not like it was done in the heat of battle.
Please tell me you're just playing devil's advocate here. Of course it should be different for managers.
Don't be so bloody daft. # I agree a slightly heftier fine/ban, but some of these people thinking he should have got longer/lost his job are barking mad. I suppose when you think about it, it's like the Joey Barton vs Man City scenario. He got a similar ban didn't he? I don't think managers should have to set an example any more than a player should. Kids look up to players, not managers. Why?
I only think he should have lost his job if Ashley felt Pardew could no longer discipline his players for doing the same. Personally i think FA got the punishment right except maybe the fine should have been more and possibility of enforcing anger management course
Well said I think the fact that Pardew has volunteered to do community service probably prevented a heftier fine to be honest. I think that along with the immediate apology definitely helped on that front.
But Pardew said it wasn't a headbutt, he was just moving the lad out of the way with his head. His words, not mine. So same applies to Meyler then? If that's a shove then Pardews was a headbutt. The act was intentional. If it wasn't he wouldn't have a) admitted it or b) been banned as his legal team would have advised him he would be able to challenge it. He's done the crime, he will do his time, move on.
He has got form.... http://www.sunderlandecho.com/sport...-newcastle-boss-pardew-in-hot-water-1-6491433
Another twist to this of course is that, assuming Pardew's absence from the touchline is a disadvantage to Newcastle and hence makes them weaker, it gives our relegation rivals that play Newcastle in the next 7 games a slight advantage. Does that make sense ?
That was my point, if one was a head butt the other was a shove. It was all handbags to be honest and the media reaction pretty laughable. If he'd have floored Meyler then I could understand the uproar. He's now had his punishment, it's a fair punishment so we accept it and move on.
Meyler was rushing to take a quick throw-in and Pardew the Cad got in his way, as far as I could see. Hence the 'push'. The Pardew took issue and it ended up with the 'head-butting'. Pardew was at fault initially - either intentionally or unintentionally.....(IMO)
It's done. Move on. Meyler's not fussed. Bruce isn't. Police aren't interested. Makes no more difference to us and we have a couple of more important issues to focus on. Makes no real difference to Newcastle. They'll finish in the same position (give or take a place or two) regardless of whether Pardew is in the stadium, at pitch side or on the moon. They're not going down, they're not gonna be top 5 regardless. The only loser is Pardew himself. He's been hit in the pocket and his credibility has taken a hit. As I said, move on.
Oh, come on - it's obvious. Footballers are twentysomething raging masses of testosterone and adrenalin, pushing themselves to physical limits out there. Some of them (but by no means all, or even most) are also stupid beyond belief. Alan Pardew is a 52-year-old man responsible for a multi-million-pound club and many high-profile players and staff - he's the leader and should act accordingly. He's risen to one of the highest football managerial positions in the country - of course you can't apply the same judgment to him as you would to a footballer.
About as good as it could be for what he did. Has to stay away from the Away game @ Fulham and 2 home games against Palace and Everton. In effect he gets a 10 day stadium ban as the first 3 games are on 15th - 22nd and 25th march. He can sit in the stands for the following games :- Southampton(a) on 29th march, Man Utd(h) on 5th april, Stoke(a) on the 12th and Swansea(h) on 19th april which ends the 7 games ban. He is able to go back to the touchline on Monday 28th April when the Toon go to Arsenal for a live tv game.
