Amazes me how people can come out with this stuff and keep a straight face (metaphorically speaking).
The idea that anyone is "too big" for a competition is ludicrously arrogant.
If you only play well enough to reach Europa league, then that's your level, so get on with it.

 

Funny that now Utd are a run of the mill top ten prem team semi finals and losing finals are considered success.

You're in it to win it, bit in in 20+ attempts you flucked it after Bayern battered you for 88 minutes and after JT slipped on the run up to the pen that would have won it in Moscow.

 

How many have bettered it? Barcelona? Bayern have equalled it, AC Milan?

Thats about it and even then, Im not 100% on the above, some may have won it as often as us.

So yeh, it is quite impressive.

I think people should just recognise arrogance when they see it. Huge massive clubs have used this competition to grow and develop

For instance while athetico are not a global club like utd they built on the back of it and are now CL clubs. Further inter, bayern and others like juve AND US are just as big a club.

Message to utd. suck it up. use it as a nice proving ground for young players, win the damned thing, kick on for the following year... throw it away and prove you are small minded like tottenham or o'neill at villa and jus tpla a crap team and go out chasing mythical 4th places.

I think this all just puts a very clear picture of how every other club in the world can suck it f'n up and go play to win rather than whining about it. its only the small minded who don't bother.

Frankly utd need to blood younger players and this competition is every easy to throw kids in cos its f'n league 1 in the group phase.

don't whine... and f sake stop thinking you are sure to get 4th btw... acept whats happened and plan your next year to play like as if you are still a CL club, same resources to deliver league and cups and build again.

if you are on about the atmos you would get for the likes of real,barca,bayern etc then yes nothing would beat that european night wise, but if you ended up say playing macib hifia (dont think that's right but hopefully you know who i mean) or someone similar, then no way is that better than being at wembley and wining a cup.

 

Sure, you can point at the last ten years and say other teams were stronger etc (although you wouldn't like me pointing the finger at Chelsea or Liverpool) but aren't Man Utd suppose to be aiming to be the best?

Do you really think a team that included the worlds best midfield of its generation in Beckham, Scholes, Keane and Giggs deserved to only win one CL medal? Not to mention Neville, Stam, Rio, RvN, etc around them. the fact of the matter is, Man Utd should have won three or four during Fergie's reign considering the team and club structure but you didn't.

You responded with "how many have bettered it?", that to me suggests that nobody dominated it so it was there for Man Utd to take.

Table doesn't lie though I think luck has put Man Utd a bit higher than they deserve and Juventus a bit lower than they deserve

 

Winning the Europa would be nice as its one thing weve never won.

Weve usually not been bad enough to win it in the past 2 decades and we were never good enough the 3 decades before.

sure the trophy is 9" talol and made out of kitkat foil but as PMT above says, good experience for the younger lads on a fairly big stage.

TBH though, bring back the CWC.

I'd say we have done pretty damn well.

Liverpool play in the FA Cup every season. How many times have you won it it in 20 years? Why havent you won it more?

We should be above Bayern We got to five first and they've lost more finals so have a lower success rate

 

I think we should stop the PL now and hand the title to Utd because it's simply unfair that the rest of the league won't let them win it.

 

No ones saying you haven't done well but you should have done better and I believe a club of Man Utd's size should have been aiming for more than two!

 

Recent history suggests only the help of historical seeding has kept you out of the EL which is more like your true level

The reality is that Utd's over-inflated view of their global status has led them to higher expectations.
Fuelled by the blinkered English media, the myth that they are the best club side in the world means being brought down to earth with a bump hurts.
The older LFC fans can tell them exactly how that feels.
(Except that for a few years we truly were the best club side in the world).
