Let's not loose sight of the fact that we still have a very good squad the major problem this season is having had a manager who seemed to want to fit the players to a system rather than looking at squad and deciding how to get the best out of it. We either need to back Sherwood and let him know it or change managers quickly, otherwise we can look forward to another 'transition' season.
My point Spurf is, that Sherwood is unlikely to get respect off players who don't know him. If his 'time' consists of anymore player slatings, could be a moot point anyway! Established players of ours will know him, his career, and can overlook the Pro Licence thing, but even some of them don't seem to want to. A foriegner and his funny agent, I really don't think so.
Sherwood's comments about Levy won't have helped his cause. I really wonder if some of the younger managers have paid any attention at all to those who've been successful before them? A lot of them don't seem to have been taking any notes.
Sherwood doesn't mind the notes being dropped in his bank account monthly! I wonder if TS has a bonus scheme for any of our own youths who break into the first team....Nabil...you're in!

Yes. If we forget about the various reasons we have to be disappointed with various people right now, I see this as a squad that could be in the CL next year with the right manager. But there are a couple of complicating factors, beside the obvious one of needing to pick the right manager. The first is that the manager, even if the right one, will have to establish that he won't be fired at the first significant downturn. The second is that there are too many players who could have a reasonable belief they should be starting. Cut the number of "extra" players in half, more or less, and we have the right amount of depth. As it is, it's bewildering to me as a fan, and must be more than disconcerting to the players, to not have a clear idea who's going to start in four or six spots. (Two or three is about right). In retrospect we probably should have divided the Bale money among four players rather than seven, or perhaps four players plus three prospects.
They don't respect a player who's played at the top level all his career and was captain of a premier league winning team.... our squads full of winners isn't it! We have a large squad, not a good one...a big difference
Makes you think of going out to get a player like Barton. Not a great player but he will get his players moving and caring.....and I've heard he would shake 'em up in training games too. Must be SOMEONE who puts his club before money..... Man U have always had choppers.Only got one now and I think he's injury prone!
I get your point on good players don't necessarily make good managers but we're talking about respect here. Doesn't that show you everything that's wrong with modern day footballers. As for the pro-licence, who cares its a piece of paper
I'd love Roy Keane in that midfield though, we've gone back to the days before Harry, no leaders on the pitch, Sandro's a hard man but wouldn't say he gets the team going
They most likely do respect his career, but not as a manager. I'd re-think the 'bit of paper' comment mate, I'd say UEFA care greatly! can't say I know too many Driving Instructors who have no driving licence? Management is regulated and licenced and he isn't qualified.
I'm not sure it's about leaders, to be honest. There doesn't seem to be much resembling a footballing philosophy. A system, something to get behind. When Redknapp got us winning and playing good football a lot of it was to do with everyone knowing what they were supposed to be doing, I think. Sherwood started off by talking about football being a simple game, but his team selections and tactics have got gradually more convoluted and confusing over time. We don't have a playmaker, a pace setter, a dictator of how the game's going to go. We're not set up to absorb attacks and hit on the break. We don't get players into the box and put crosses in. I'm not sure how we're expected to break sides down and I'm not sure what our game's supposed to be about.
I haven't a clue about Bill.I do know he became a coach at Spurs after his playing career finished. Also coaching University teams and England international players also.....whether they had coaching badges in those days,I don't know.Probably went by reputation....
I can assure you, it's more than just a piece of paper, but that's a different conversation altogether! What reason would they have to respect Sherwood? It doesn't matter that he's one the league once with Blackburn rovers, he's unproven as a manager with no record to back himself up with. Without that, it's difficult to jump straight into a job as a premier league manager with overpaid pricks and gain respect.
Irrelevant, that fact is, it is compulsory now, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEFA_Pro_Licence with rare exception granted on the basis you get it done asap, Southgate and Avram Grant being only 2 that I can recall in 10yrs or more.
Alex Ferguson and Graeme Souness didn't have one, either, with Bacon Face given special dispensation...which is yet another reason to have little faith in UEFA enforcing any of the rules when the G14 clubs are breaking them.
I think that's argument over then regarding the pro-license. If one of the most successful managers ever didn't need one then it proves its worthless
It's like saying you can't take Einstein seriously because he didn't have 'O' Level Physics. I'm glad they seemed to agree that there should be exceptions to their bureaucratic procedures.
