Thank you Livtor as you lovingly provide evidence of the arrogance of ignorance.

    Hi Dave,

I was referring generally to the state schools of the UK (in my 2nd) paragraph, here it's CofI as Page states, you've got CofE over there although the assembly prayers and PS RE classes tend to teach a generalised non denominational Christian curriculum no matter where, The RC sector is known as the maintained education sector, semi autonomous here, I assume the same over there?.

UK law states that RE including other religions must be taught both at PS and Secondary level BUT there should be emphasis placed on the (still) predominate UK faith Christianity which does indeed dominate all RE classes. There are exceptions allowed depending on area demographics or individual parental choices. Same as you say with holidays.

I wasn't disagreeing with it happening in my point just noting that I found it strange that a country (UK) that deliberately mixes religion, and mainly one area, with state education and public life is not however willing to countenance introducing creationism as a valid theory in its science classes.

This, compared to the US that went to such lengths to sepatate church and state yet in certain states have actively insisited that creationism be taught alongside evolution in science classes and not just RE.

Not that major a point just strange.

And just for Liv, I'll add my preference. I do not wish to see Creationism taught in a science class as it can't be taught on scientific principles.

But I'd no more want a science segment in RE stating the rest of the class is rubbish. I'd prefer an RE class (not just GCSE) be purely teaching about religions and their part in societies (good and bad) rather than embracing one as truth as is done currently. In my opinion if you want a class that embraces one faith, you'll find your experts in your church and Sunday schools where you have an attentive audience.

Sorry haven't read rest of thread so if this has been dealt with cool!

Nice article that, Luv. The common vein in between the stories being "Thank you Religion, for providing science with an establishment to destroy and an inspiration to disprove."

Creationism shouldn't be taught in a public school period, imo.

But you would probably include that in with any religion being taught in state schools I would guess?

Would you allow private faith schools or insist on a secular education for all children?

If you call a BA and MA from MIT and a Ph.D from University of Arizona - all in planetary science - research centred on the connections between meteorites and asteroids, and the origin and evolution of small bodies in the solar system; in addition over 40 refereed scientific papers, co-authored several books on astronomy which have been translated into multiple languages; taking part in the Antarctic Search for Meteorites, ANSMET, where he discovered a number of meteorites on the ice fields of Antarctica; Chair of the Division for Planetary Sciences of the American Astronomical Society from October 2006 to October 2007; 'trawling behind science' then you're even crazier than your posts suggest! The man was an established scientist long before he became a priest.

    Evenin frank,

As far as I am aware there is no mainstream Christian denomination that holds creationism as a tenant of their faith. I certainly cannot speak for Muslims, Hindus or Sikhs however. There may also be fundamental Jewish sects who do hold closer to creationism but again I don't know.

You really are blind to any opinion but your own, the article is nicely balanced but it does show what you posted to be wrong (suggesting scientists wouldn't think this way)and you just cannot accept that.

It's so funny because you are acting like a religious fanatic, <laugh>

    Great insight right there.

Atheism is as strong as any religion with added anger, sarcasm and arrogance <ok>
