Things may be different in NI but for the rest of the state there is only one denomination of the Christian faith that is established. I do not know the GCSE RE syllabus intimately, but from what I hear it is necessary for those children to study a number of faiths in order to complete the syllabus. As for the holidays being built around traditional Christian celebrations then I would comment that this is both historical and perhaps still condoned by a majority of the population who still consider themselves to support judeo-christian principles.

There's two Dave CofE and RC, both share the main Christian rights/festivals and holidays but differ how they deliver gods word and in sainthood etc.

In areas of large Asian communities it is seen as not politically correct to force the Christian faith upon Asian children whose faiths differ from Christianity and the schools have to adopt and integrate their faiths within their system.

GCSE in RE involves the study of Christianity, Islam or Judaism, or a study of two religions in which case Buddhism, Hinduism and Sikhism are also choices. Children in primary education also have to learn about world religions as part of the national curriculum. I think you mentioned in a previous post that while we still live in a Christian country - the monarch is still the supreme governor of the Church of England - Christianity will always be the main religion taught in schools.

I understand that Page. What I was trying to get across was that the GCSE syllabus itself for RE specifically states that children undertaking the course of study and the examination MUST be able to demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of more than 1 faith.

"DD, grow up. You already know that you can't answer a question with another question. But if you want to go down that road then can you actually prove that you exist?"

    I drink, therefore I am?

    :emoticon-0175-drunk

Seriously, how does your sky-god stand up to your test of negative proof compared to Norse Gods, Aztec gods or aboriginal gods? Not being obtuse, just asking if you can prove they don't exist. If you can't, and therefore by your logic they do exist until proven they don't, how does that square with your prophets saying that your god is the only god?

    Just asking. :emoticon-0112-wonde

DD, I like the drink solution <ok>

If you'll stop being so sarcastically insulting then then I will try and offer an explanation but I'm not going to open myself to bad minded ridicule. So let me know.

Good questions dd, but as always from people of faith you get elliptical answers if any.

I have a few questions of my own, like:

    1. How many of the planets hosting intellectual beings have been visited by Jesus?

    2. Was he betrayed and nailed to the cross in all of these planets?

    3. Do the planets that embraced him currently live in an angel-patrolled utopia?

    4. Is Jesus just a universe-travelling salesman promoting his dad's brand of utopia?

    5. Does "God club" membership produce better utopia for its members than "Venus club" membership?

    6. Would a nymphomaniac be much better served if she follows the Word of Venus's daughter?

If you don't think there is a God, why are you wasting your time with meaningless questions?

  10. I think there is a god, he lives within my very own temple <ok>

There were a number of Romans who became emperor who thought the same thing - trouble is they appear to have sacrificed many in an attempt to prove that they were gods.

Perhaps because he's incapable of formulating meaningful questions?

Are you calling your own doctrine meaningless?

These are all questions a Pope has probably pondered through.

    Most likely <ok>

Thing is, there's been lots of people questioning with a desire to seek better understanding and that's healthy. And then there's been a couple of people with no wish to gain any understanding at all but instead formulate nonsensical statements seemingly for their own amusement because they haven't added anything to the discussion.

I'll break it down for you two. Let's start with a classical question:

How many of the planets hosting intellectual beings you think have been visited by Jesus?

Meaningless to you - since you're questioning something which doesn't exist to you.

    My 'doctrine' ???

Question for you - are you English?

You're being elliptical again, see? <laugh>

Why so insecure? Just try to answer the question to the best of your ability...

A sensible post from Johnson followed by drivel from Livtor. Just accept that some people simply don't agree with your views.

I'll facilitate the Q/A further. If anyone of you answers that one question (don't see how one can interprete it as drivel btw), I'll let you ask me three questions that challenge my belief in science...

Deal, are you three (jb, luv, dave) gonna chicken out?
