Sorry to push this, it's just so I'm clear in my mind. You say they will accept it, but am I right in thinking they don't have to? Plus is it the Prem or the FA (or both/neither) that mention fan consultation?
I'm not sure if they are duty bound to accept it, or not, but they're definitely going to. Both the Premier League and the FA think there should be fan consultation over any major change at a club, be that name, kit, or even badge. As far as I can remember, the rules are actually a bit vague, but the FA are looking to remedy this shortly, to tighten things up. In the main, the Premier League rules just mirror the FA ones, there are only really different rules for Premier League specific issues.
The FA rules have no reference to consulting fans. They only say the FA Council has absolute discretion in making the decision. The Premier League Rules say the club has to consult all the major stakeholders when making a major change. When the dust has settled I think the FA and the Premier League may revisit the rules to make it clearer as it is required. Especially given all the parliamentary interest and the overhanging threat of legislation.
If new potential sponsors(wanting to invest massive wonga in our club) insist on it then yes but until the FA(april 9th) give there ruling it is all just hot air at the moment.
The legacy and philanthropic gift to the city, not to mention the posthumous reverence which he craves, would already now be assured with this Premier League return and Wembley SF appearance. Instead he has monumentally blundered with his inflexible mishandling of his 'business'. Headshakingly sad to see him blow it with his stubbornness.
