Charlton boss Chris Powell on QPR hitlist should Harry Redknapp leave Loftus Road. Chris Powell will find himself on the shortlist to become QPR boss when Harry Redknapp leaves, writes Tom Hopkinson of the Sunday People. please log in to view this image Redknapp, 67, is suffering knee pain and is expected to part company with Rangers at the end of the season. Even though his Charlton side lie bottom of the Championship, Powell is one of the men who has been mooted to take over at the Hoops. His Addicks contract expires at the end of this season, and he is seeking clarification over the clubâs direction before penning a new deal. Powell has been in place at the Valley since January 2011 but can expect an approach from the QPR board if Redknapp stands down. http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/charlton-boss-chris-powell-qpr-3223306?
I think Chris was to Charlton what Ian Holloway was to us when the times were hard at QPR. Charlton since there relegation from the prem have been going through similar hardships we had in the late 90s to early 2000s. They have been asset striped so to speak and Chris got them a promotion from league one back to the championship on a shoe string budget. I like Chris and hope he has a long and successful management career in football. I just hope and no disrespect Chris that when Harold steps down that we go for a more experienced name. Hey maybe Chris could be a very good manager at a club with a better squad and potential to sign better players, our Olly has two promotions to the prem on his CV now!
A nice bloke and I know for a fact that he is a Rangers fan, still not sure I would be thrilled at his appointment though.
Not sure what people's problem is with him. Have we not had enough of 'name' managers and players? Powell is a young guy with a good record, currently working with a tiny budget. Next year we might need someone with experience of having no money.
He must not have managed for ten years. Don't we need a manager that we can plan to have build us a team for 5-10 years ideally?
They are but he got them up in the first place and is working with a minuscule budget compared to most teams in this league while also having players forced upon him by an owner using them as a feeder club. What would Hoddle bring to this club that it needs?
Fair comments on Powell. I've always liked Hoddle whenever I've heard him speak on the game. I think he would get us playing good football.
Im a massive Hoddle fan but in reality i just dont see it. He's done it all before and has nothing left to prove. He got England playing some of the best football ive seen us play so why would he put his reputation on the line for us. Not sure about Powell TBH. Seems to be a decent up & coming manager but i dont think the fans would buy into his long term plans and he hasnt really proved a great del (apart from beating us). Cant say id be overly thrilled but if he could sell it to me then I'd back him. Not even going to start on the "black manager" issue...!
