Our young local Liverpool man Conor Coady has been out on loan at Sheffield United this season, playing regular football this season. Brenden Rodgers spoke about Coady in an interview this week, and today the club site features an interview with Coady him self and the words said seem positive for Coady. Here they are: I like the way he talks about learning to recieve the ball and always looking to play it forward and make sure the ball is always moved positively. A must in modern football. Rodgers spoke about him playing every week, Though he did not say that was for Liverpool... Now the real question is does Coady have an LFC future? Our future midfield anchor.
agree with this. not sure if he has a future with us, but he certainly does not lack the commitment or passion same as spearing, will he go the same way? flanno has done ok, so he has a chance, just needs to stay grounded and not think he has made it before he has done anything, seems to be a problem now days with a lot of youngsters, get their big contract and the effort seems to stop, i thought sterling was going that way at one point, thank **** he hasn't.
I always thought that Spearing was generally alright in terms of technique and general play. Not spectacular like Gerrard or Coutinho but his short passing and control are decent, he was strong in a tackle and he always got stuck in. His energy, passion and work rate are great to. But he is a very old school style player and we are a very modern team now. Tactical and stylisticly he wasnt quite the right fit for our team and he just didnt quite have that CL level spark. If Coady can get that tactical and stylistic foundation that we have embedded with in his game and plays with that same passion, work ethic and drive that Spearing, and now Flanagan have, he could stand a chance. Spearing was 23 when Rodgers arrived and did not have time on his side. Coady has. Coady should take some inspiration from Jon Flanagan. Coady was a CB in our youth team and is now in midfield. - Coady is in midfield here. Covers the back 4 well positional when needed (dropping into vacant CB and FB areas). But also some dodgy moments. A few times he gives the ball away far to easily and he gives away a damn awful foul.
Coady is very much like Flanno and Spearo in that they're not technically gifted players, but they are very solid (safe, if you will) options who'll give everything for the time they're on the pitch. People here were way over the top on the criticism for Jay, but these type of the players are the ones every squad needs. Someone who's not going to come on and f**k up in the 18yard line trying a fancy backheel (Enrique) or who couldn't give a **** about getting back to defend (Johnson). They're solid options which a winning side needs to have available. I always look back to United when they had the likes of O'Shea, Brown or even now Evans. Pretty average, but very solid and reliable options to mix into the squad. Coady does still have time though to develop his technical game, which is a plus.
Hope I'm wrong. I hope he got the same attitude as Flanno; in and around the first team and then isolated to come back stronger. Solid and dependable players like this should be making up the squad numbers and saving us millions in the transfer market.
I agree and we have a lot of those type of players if even a small percentage of them can step up it is going to save us a fortune.
Man Utd have done it for years; Nicky Butt, Phil Neville, Wes Brown, John O'Shea, etc so why not? They are stocking fillers really.
Ex Liverpool player Ryan Flynn just put Sheffield United 1-0 then they just scored deflected 2nd. Looks like the 3rd tier side will be in a semi at Wembley!
You can't have a team of superstars, you need those players who can come in and do a job. I think we look ok squad wise and just need to add quality.
Which falls back into my recruitment thoughts; buy for the first team and the squad takes care of itself. Use youngsters to provide further squad depth. Like you said on the other thread (£60m budget), buy two quality players that are for the now.
