Not looking too good, but I think positive, and try too... and see we're only 4 points behind Millwall, and we have a possible 12 points in hand over them.. in theory, if we win them (BIG IF) we go 16th
For months we were losing, or only drawing at home, but never seemed to lose too much ground. That caught up with us today when all four of our main relegation rivals won. I don't know what odds you could have got at the bookies on that happening. This could the weekend that will send us down, while we are chasing moonbeams in the FA Cup. The games in hand should be enough to get us out of trouble, and I don't think our best XI is any worse than that of our rivals but, as I have been banging on in other threads, we don't have the right players to play two games a week and pick up points. Too many prone to injuries or not battle-hardened at this level. Cousins needs a rest, and Poyet will soon as well, Jackson is overdue for another injury, Wiggins seems injury prone because rushed back too quickly, Wood and Tudgay are veterans, the Eurotrash are only fit to play 30 to 60 minutes. That only leaves Hamer, Wilson, Morrison and Church who will play game after game, and though I love them all, none of them are really any better than average Championship standard. They will do their own jobs well, but they are not good enough to carry all the "stocking fillers" we will be forced to play long before the season ends. We have lost the three players who were capable of carrying passengers (Kermorgant, Stephens and Solly).
The last thing you need is a draw at Sheff Utd - although you would probably take that as you'd be overwhelming favorites at home
I don't see why we should be. They won at Villa and Fulham. We couldn't beat Oxford at home but won comfortably away. I think a draw is the best we can hope for. Although we don't need these extra games, being knocked out by a Div One team would be a further blow to our morale so I hope we go through.
I couldn't believe those results coming in one after the other... Yeovil... Barnsley... Doncaster... Bolton... Mill... Off went the television.
For gods sake... We were absolutely awful today... we just didnt show up and the players failed to put in any kind of performance We're dooooomed
We didn't even manage a shot on target today, let alone a goal, clearly no fight today... SACK THEM ALL!
Bottom FFS. The next 7 days are going to be velly velly interesting. Could we be vying with Dagenham and Redbridge for being London's shiitest football club next season.
I will still be concerned even if we stay up, because if we do stay up we need to keep Poyet and bring in a lot of players to be anywhere near competitive in this division. I am starting to feel more confused and lost than i was with the last lot in charge, i have no idea what to expect other than yet more uncertainty and upset. Hope i am in a better mood when they do the draw for the semis.....
It's not so much the results today, or that after only winning twice since boxing day we've finally hit bottom with a thump. The problem is that as Eddie Firmani points out, we barely have sufficient squad for the games we have left. A defeat today would probably bring it's own problems in dwindling morale etc, but the fact is we've been on relegation form for months and we need to start to reverse the trend now. We need a win today to get a bit of momentum in even if (in my opinión) the cup is a chimera we have no hope of winning. However, the solution is wins in the league and (hopefully) a drastic refurbishment in the summer with league survival thrown in. It's not nice looking at the table though, and however much we may lament having a squad no worse than those around us, let's face it, we're botton on merit.
Ken - a team that wins the 6th round get £180k in prize money (losers get nothing except the tv pot) and losing semi-finalists get £360k - so this game is worth over £500k to the winner
