I thought I'd try to lighten the mood in these days of worry and our hope against logic battles. During our 1975 FA Cup final I was standing with my fellow supporter, wincing from time to time as the "Viva La Fulham" song was sung. Wet Spam's Taylor had just netted their second goal, the far end of the ground went into rapture, our end was stunned into silence. Apart from a guy of mature years who had stood next to me and my pal throughout the game, gradually emptying a carrier bad full of cans of beer. His comment that echoed in the silence of the moment was "Well that's it Fulham that is the lst time I will stand on this terrace supporting you", not only very amusing but in the context of this was our first visit to Wembley and likely not to be followed up in the near future, it was perfectly Fulhamish.
Ah, but what a journey and the 'games played' record is one that can't be taken away from us. Still convinced the tiff with the sponsors on the day cost us the Final. Mind you, I was so convinced that my hero at the time, Bobby Moore, would get one over on his old team that I did a 'Bobby H' and put a bet on Fulham. That was the first, and the last, time I ever have. please log in to view this image
A magic time; I could now be the guy with the beers though Great photo Cottager, and note the 2whitestripes.
