I'm trying to find one or two dedicated City fans that would like to start writing on my website.

    Here's my website presently:

    http://www.daredtodream.co.uk/

As you can see I haven't had the time to write on it and I aren't the greatest writer, however, it still seems daft to let it go to waste.

Go on Twitter mate, i'm sure there's a few on there who'll relish writing for a city blog.

Look up Rick Skelton or Dan Kemp.

I think Rick's got enough on with his Metro articles, he didn't think he could managing also writing for FourFourTwo, so I doubt he'd do this.

I already write stuff about running but if I had the time I'd be up for this too. Sure someone on here would sign up to it as plenty of good writers.

Do you have any tips (or links) on running styles? I tend to land heel first and roll to the toes, but the people I run (ok jog) with land more on their toes and make it seem much easier. If I try that, I seem to need a longer stride and tire quicker.

If I had the time I'd happily write for it, but sadly at the moment I'm a bit busy.

Firstly have you had your gait analysed? You might you actually run differently than you think. Do you overpronate or underpronate if at all? Mid foot strike is an ok running style and you can change how you run but does take time to do. My BFF runs on tiptoes and that's how most sprinters run, but it does put strain on your achillies more. Have you considered barefoot running? Not as mad as it sounds.

Cheers Charlie, I've never been properly analysed, but chatting with running partners and looking at the wear on the insole and sole of my trainers, it seems to be pretty even. Interesting you say that about the Achilles. Mine was tightening when I was trying to run more on my toes.

I've seen some of the stuff on barefoot running, but it seems to take a big change in style and lends itself more to ultra running than the 5-10k jogs I do.

Thing about achilles is most start with tight calf muscles, gastrocnemius or soleus so need to be rolled out (a rolling pin works or a foam roller) or massaged regularly. I know a bare foot runner who does 5ks.

When you say rolled out, do you mean literally over the calf? I ask because a friend rolls a ball under his foot while he's sat at his desk to strengthen the ankle, and help tight calf.

I do like the idea of barefoot. When it warms up a bit, I'll try and add a bit of barefoot beach running in. My biggest problem is with my mindset. I'm not a natural runner and I don't enjoy it. It's usually a fitness thing to help me with cycling. I've just read a book on improving the mindset (Zen and the art of running) but I think I need to run alone to use it, but at the minute I'm running with two ladies half my age and weight, and it's all I can do to stay close, never mind think of techniques. It must look like a Benny Hill sketch rather than three mates trying to get fitter.<laugh>

Yep, quite literally roll over the calf. With a foam roller you put it on the floor and roll your calves over it, they hurt when you do it and you realise how tight your muscles are. With a rolling pin you can just roll it up and down your calf when sitting. I like running on my own best. Just with fav tunes on ipod. If you are trying to keep up with others who are faster that can be hard to do. Hill sprints or fartlek are good for improving speed.

I enjoy fartlek much more than distance running.

There's a pair of hills nearby that are joined by a quiet road, so it lends itself to sprint up jog downs etc. I used to do that a bit, but struggle for time now, plus that needed others there to push against for me and it's finding like minded people that are available at the same times as me.

Cheers for the tips, I appreciate you taking the time to answer. I'm off to dig out the rolling pin now.<ok>

Sadly not as I don't earn anything from the site.
