    No doubt Mick and EDGE will be along soon to tell us how they deserve it and it all goes back into the economy blah, blah, blah.

    Indeed.

    It's a pity the salary for members of parliament is so low, if it was raised to a decent level then we could entice these talented people to run the country.

    In all seriousness, the way they have moved the models of these business into top-down technology driven companies means that the difference between someone good - or someone great - in command can be many billions of pounds. Thirty years ago the banks were much more driven by local staff, such as bank managers, who were delegated all the responsibilities of their local branches (and paid a nice middle class wage for it too). Now human managers are out the door and everything is run from the top, with risk models and credit profiles. Most of the actual trading on the investment side is done by models too. So yeah having the correct person in charge has now become much more important, which is why there has been run away wage inflation at the top, while old middle class banking jobs have disappeared.

    It's a bit like Premier League footballers now where the financial stakes are so high every team is scared to try their hand employing unknowns, so they keep inflating wages for people who have a track record of performing. The problem with any sort of track record in finance is it could almost all be based on random luck, since even clueless people betting on coin flips can get seemingly impressive winning streaks. The collapse of the banks showed how many people at the top were truly clueless.

    Anyway, **** knows how we fix it.

    Ye wouldn't have liked it anyway, it tried to actually understand what the problem is, and doesn't involve any pointless protesting outside a government building.

    <rofl>

    Your pseudo-intellectual ramblings on an obscure website are definitely more effective at solving society's problems than mass public demonstrations?

    <rofl>

    Mick's out-out-control ego wins again.

    Simple. We build a guillotine, site it in Threadneedle St, EC1, and drag a few of the ****s out of their glass towers. Just to adjust the karmic balance of the universe.

    Well I didn't say I was trying to solve problems - I am trying to understand them. If you understand a lot of the problems that everyone likes to get their knickers in a twist over (such as growing inequality) you will realise that they are not very easy to fix (and understanding the problem can also allow you to hedge your own personal position to make sure you are not one of the losers). Most people don't take the time to try and understand the subject they form an opinion over though, they just read a Daily Record headline about evil greedy men, then jump on a public fury bandwagon.

    Writing my understanding of certain problems on here might be a bit pointless, but I enjoy organising my thoughts and writing them out. It's not completely wasted time for me either, as people picking holes in my logic on here (or mostly picking holes in my own logic as I write it) helps me refine my opinions.

    Also, most of the time I just fancy an argument with someone - and you are the one who bites most, so I keep name dropping you for a laugh <whistle>
