Woy Hodgson has more problems than ever. What a shambles of a game to watch. Curtis Davies and Tom Huddlestone still have a chance of the squad if they keep playing upto there best. Davies especially as Smalling once again proved he is not good enough. Englands best defender has retired (Terry) and after Cahill and Jagielka we have nothing. It was a good night for Hull City players in the internationals last night. McGregor - Long - Bruce jnr all started and Long scored and should have had 3. Meyler and Quinn also came on for the ROI and got some game time. Elmohamady started for Egypt as Gedo scored one of the 2 goals in a 2-0 Egypt win. Figueroa also started for Honduras in a 2-1 win over Venezuela. Yes a good week for our lads.
Lallana has to go as part of the squad but Stirling and Shaw should just go and be a part of the on-playing party for tournament experience. There time as England players IMO should start from the Euro 2016 qualifiers. Curtis Davies still has a chance if form and quality is the yardstick to selection. Smalling is a disaster waiting to happen.
So the BBC website says yes. On the team listings last night it said he started. Oh well........ Bottom 3 without a doubt. Still think that Graham Taylor and Steve "Wally with the Brolly" McClaren are worse.... at present.
I actually like Roy Hodgson, not as the England manager but he has been very succesful elsewhere. He has the least amount of quality to work with compared to many of the recently failed England managers. I just don't think Roy is brave enough. Last night he should of started Shaw, Lallana, and many of the other players who aren't set to go to the World Cup but have half a chance, the hopefuls. Like Johnson, Barry, Shaw etc. It was a waste of a friendly last night, we all knew Lallana was good enough all we found out about our side is that we struggled to score against a ****e team and could have easily conceded a couple. Players like Huddlestone and Davies should of got their chance to prove themselves last night, with Roy completely ignoring their form at club level there is nothing else other English players can do.
Get real lads, we all know Woy doesn't pick based on form. He picks based on club and peer pressure. He's a shambles.
There'll be a fair few names in the running for that prestigious title. My bet Keegan. That Euro 2000 campaign was awful to watch.
Judging by how his tenure went, i'd say Graham Taylor. I think what happened to McLaren would've happened to a lot of managers, the squad at the time was ****e.
Taylor took over the World Cup semi-finalists and gave us Geoff Thomas, Carlton Palmer etc while leaving out class players like Waddle, Beardsley and Le Tissier. It's hard for any other England manager to compete with a decline like that. OK, he wasn't helped by injuries to the likes Gazza, Barnes, Mark Wright and Shearer, but still...
The funny thing is, pretty much ever since he was sacked, my regard for Taylor as a person has gone up. He weathered the horrendous tabloid criticism without becoming bitter, and he seems to be a genuine and honest, respectful man. Even he would probably admit that he was simply promoted above his level (as happened with McClaren).
To be fair to the lad, didn't he keep playing for a bit? Of all the bloody English midfielders to get injured, it had to be someone other than Cleverley...
As frustrating as I find Woy (and he strikes me as a bewildered owl who doesn't hear people's words but just hears a cacophony of hoots, of which he can make no sense) I don't think it's fair to condemn him yet. He took over from a man incapable of communicating with other humans weeks before the Euros and the general opinion was he did OK under the circumstances. He then qualified for Brazil. Mission accomplished. He should only be judged after we finish our World Cup campaign. I'm not defending him. I just think it's only reasonable to give an international manager a full qualifying competition and tournament before judging him. Mind you, if our group record turns out to be P3 W0 D1 L2 F2 A5 Pts1 as I suspect it might be I'll be the first to suggest he should have his wings clipped and be tethered to a post where he can't cause any more harm.
