Philip Buckingham ‏@PJBuckingham It is 43 years ago today that East Yorkshire last played host to an FA Cup quarter-final. #hcafc 2 #stoke 3 in front of 41,452 at BP.
Me too, right up against the fence behind the goal on Bunkers. Gordon Banks flicked us the V sign when he collected the ball for a goal kick, after we'd been giving him dogs abuse.
The Stoke team stayed over at the Expanse Hotel in Brid. I remember going down there and getting Gordon Bank's autograph. Great keeper.
Phil Buickingham likes to come out with the obvious. That Stoke game has been mentioned here many times of late. But yes i agree John. Where have the years gone.? As for the match oifficials It could have been worse. Thankfully Jones is just the board boy.
So he should No respect for the best GK ever. Even Waggy showed Banksie contempt the way he took both goals. Lol. I was in the well in line with the goal line. Terrry Neill's header was way over the line and it should have been 3-3 and a replay.
Oh the memories. The turning point in the game was Terry Conroy making it 2-1 just on half-time. 2-0 @ the turn round and Hull would have won. imo.
Me and my mates were in the well of the West Stand, we stood there to see the players close up as they came out. We were gutted that day as we had played so well in the cup until then. 43yrs scary.
Terry Conroy was the person that broke our hearts. For me he was mom on the day. Superb all round display. Did they deserve to win the match, probably not, but I still say it was one of the best games I ever saw at BP.
I had forgotten about that, like Jack Taylor should have given us a penalty against Chelsea a few years earlier. Both games we could have come out with different results.
Agreed. But i did also like it on 23rd November 1974 when we beat Manchester Utd 2-0 in a 2nd division game(championship now). Both these stand out way above any other @ BP. Very true John. Jack Taylor was the best around as well. So being screwed by match offricials is nothing new is it.? 1966 - 1971 & 2013 stand out for me.
As per usual, here's his previous City games. 2013/14: Liverpool 2-0 Hull 2012/13: Hull 0-0 Leicester 2011/12: Hull 3-1 Ipswich (FA Cup) 2010/11: Ipswich 1-1 Hull Not that many really.
