I don't like it, I am getting this sick feeling inside, the sort of feeling I have looking at the missus during mating season, that sick feeling of bitter disappointment, it's gonna hurt and that 'it's gonna get real messy and there is nothing you can do about it'

Sheff U are in rich form and we are just crap, we are sending 5.5k up north and will be outnumbered 5 to 1. We are on the telly, we are playing in white, Chis Powell is still our manager, the omens are not good. What are the bookies saying?

    Is it just me?

One of the few occasions I agree with Typical, I fear this will be the biggest anti climax for us for some considerable time. The pleasure of being a Charlton fan.

I'm feeling quietly confident. They do have a decent cup pedigree, but I think it's our year to progress to the final 4. I'll be cheering us on in Belfast with a few pints. COYR

One minute I think we can do it, then the next I think but we are Charlton and are bound to slip up when we should get through. Only 4 days till we can concentrate on the league.

I'm really starting to worry about this too, getting nervous, god knows what will happen if we somehow win and get wembley. But yeah, got to get past United first and I'm not too confident

Getting nervous as its the biggest opportunity we've had of getting to Wembley since 2000 (when we lost to Bolton as we cruised to the Division One Title).

Still I think we can do it, it just aint gonna be an easy Championship v League One tie that some people (the non-fans of Charlton and Sheffield United) may think... This could be tie of the round as neither side will Defend much as both sets of players this is their one chance of Wembley (apart from Simon Church who has been there for Reading)

Back when I was a nipper I well remember standing on the terraces at the old Baseball Ground as we succumbed to a late losing goal. An old boy - now long gone - was screaming at our team from just behind me. As we walked out disconsolate at the end he turned to me ruefully and said:

"the thing about Charlton lad, they are let down merchants"

    True story.

I am surprised at the responses in this thread, did all the above apply in the games we won that got us here to this match ? (of which is great going as it is). It's nothing to do with being happy with mediocrity

I think we win this game anyway, and yes i know that even in my shorter time of following charlton we do let down, but in sport nothing is worse than mentally accepting those very words. Get out of the rut.

    Cannot wait for sunday.

Its very bloody well for to come up with this 'once more into the breach dear friends' nonsense. Your 10 million miles away sitting a beach, with the sun shining and a shrimp in the Barbie, not back here in blighty with trench foot, clouds greyer than a elephants knackers, and a verruca. Not wishing to label the point but the losing mentality you speak off, is the very thing that our glorious leader said on Saturday. "im happy its 3.0" And exactly what team of distinction did we beat in our meteoric rise to the quarters?

Rut we are not even in a rut. we are in a trench.

I can only imagine that the fans who are getting carried away with this competition, are the same fans who never realised finishing 9th last season was nothing more than a false dawn, they also haven't worked out that the odds of us getting to the final are as high as an asteroid or comet hitting the New Den...

Has everyone totally put aside the obvious, which Typical has rightly pointed out... "Exactly what team of distinction did we beat in our meteoric rise to the quarters?"

This squad has a serious job in hand to get itself out of the **** in the league... Personally that's my main concern now... The pile up of matches in the important forthcoming league games are what's giving me the collywobbles...

    Then again Nick

    @AHLL

Cheers for that. Just watched it, and all the memories came flooding back. What a brilliant striker Mendonca was. A few real Charlton people in that team including Rufus, Robbo and Brown. A great day.

Watching that again has brought back some great memories. It is the highest I have felt after a football match. Getting back into Bexleyheath well after the game, walking to home with my daughter. People driving along hooting us as we were wrapped in the Union Flag and we were waving a big Charlton flag. I was smiling for a week after that.
