Having seen this article I did wonder if teams might take advantage and have better players hiding beneath their veils.

"FIFA, football's world governing body, officially authorised players on Saturday to wear head covers for religious purposes during matches. The decision means that female players who wear religious head covers, such as a veil, in everyday life can now do so during matches."

Sæl öll. Cappuccino, coffee, tea donuts and fruit are on the bar.

The Ísland national football team are in Wales for a match, the under 21 men are in Kasakstan to play and the women are in Portugal to play against Germany, Noregur and Kína. If each team has 22 players and some supporting staff we have near 0.03 per cent of the population doing sport representing the nation today.

Morning all, a beautiful sunny day and if the meteo are to be believed then we are in for a protracted dry and warm spell. Noticed on route to the bakers this morning that some of the hedgerows are turning green, so Spring is almost here. :emoticon-0157-sun:

Down here in SW England it is certainly milder but rain is on its way for late Thursday and Friday so no protracted dry spell for us! :(

Even the farmers don't need any more rain!

As my late Dad was Welsh (does that make me half Welsh?) I cannot wish you well against Wales today but good luck elsewhere AK.

Will completely understand if there is not a latte for me on the bar tomorrow!

Did anyone see the news report (BBC I think) on teaching 10 year olds about loan sharks yesterday? At one point the reporter did a piece sitting at a class room desk next to a Muslim girl dressed in black plus head dress. This made me look at the other class members and there was not a white face as far as I could see. I am sure these children are as British as me but I could not help feeling this was not a representative section of the UK population and that the BBC always go out of their way to promote the minority (for want of a better word). Why did they choose that school?

Just a thought! (now what have I started....)

I did not see the report. I would however guess that it was broadcast from a big inner city as one would imagine these are areas with a greater prevalence of loan sharks. A lot of inner city schools would have significant numbers of first or second generation immigrants.

I cannot not serve you as I can understand losing to a team who have one member who cost more than all the Ísland footballers together and not just the national football team. Wales were on their field, had more shots corners and scored more goals. As consolation we had a player cautioned.

Do English schools have uniforms so all the children are the same?

I believe this is the intention and the children in this school were
Immaculatately turned out in uniform apart from the Muslim girl.

My pointed was against the BBC and the message they went sending, being a public service pretending to be neutral but take any opportunity to peddle socialist dogmatic.

Sorry but really have to disagree - if this was an inner city school then what was depicted would have been pretty normal. It could have been the school up the road from me. I do share your view that there are times when the BBC peddles a message but, from what you have described, do not share the view that this was one of them.

I am sorry but I too don't agree. This could be a school in inner city Leeds, Bradford or Sheffield...... It is a daily reality. In Univ, 25% of my students were non-white.

When I used to teach in a primary school in Bradford. Guess who came top in English?? Asian girls......
