I'd take a lot of positives from that, and not just Luke & Adz. There were signs that things could click in midfield and upfront, with some combination of the players used tonight.

That can't be our central defensive pairing though.

Just had a look at his Twitter and I like him now. It's not often a footballer's Twitter account gives a good impression of him.

Sturridge up top for WC with Adam behind. Rooney can warm the bench. Balance a lot better latterly.

Swansea midfielder Wayne Routledge: Adam Lallana so gifted with a football.. It's a joy to watch.

Don't worry Wayne, you'll see it up close soon enough.:)

Thought he did well. Others who deserve to be criticised more. Rooney was a 3/10 for me. Wilshere 4/10.

What did he do going forward though?

I'd play those three together. Dunno who'd be behind them though, apart from Gerrard.

Lallana getting a lot of love from the itv pundits. Think him and Shaw have booked their seats with tonight's performances.

Happy that Lallana made an impact and Shaw looked composed as always, but still don't think Hodgson has any idea what the optimal shape is. Hopefully Adam gave him a bit of inspiration...

I think Lallana was already going before tonight to be honest.

He plays on the left, he plays on the right. Adam Lallana, makes Sturridge alright.

Got forward well enough I thought. Realistically he's the best option we have for that position.

Rooney is supposed to be Englands star man, but Adam was so much more effective when he came on. Luke has asked the big question of Woy, "Why choose Ash ahead of me?"

I think so too, but he's inked in now. Pushing for a place in the first 11.

I like how Adam acts like a captain, just kind of takes charge of situations, that's what this limp England team needs, some leaders......of the playing variety. We've got enough talkers of a good game already.

His touch just kept letting him down. Not very talented with the ball, that lad.

Much better defender than Walker though.

Roy Hodgson: "Adam Lallana's introduction, not least of all for the cross for the goal, but also in his general play, made a big difference."

You could say the same about the rest of our team for the first 70 minutes. What did Rooney or Wilshere offer? Johnson is a defender. His job is to defend. Getting forward is a bonus, but nonetheless he got forward a lot, and put in some crosses.
