Townsend played well in the last 2 England games. His form for Spurs (when he has played) has been awful, It's a tricky one. Ashley Cole ?? There are twenty better English left full backs than him !
That would probably have been more of a disappointment for him, missing out due to injury, than not been included in the first place.
Agreed. Figgs has been running on empty for a while and with the week he has this week he will deffo need sitting on the bench. Bruce jnr has done well but Faye and Chester are much better options for the Mackems especially if Jozy Altidore starts.
I expect SB will want to get the Newcastle game out 'the system' so I expect no changes except those that are enforced (Long and Jelavic).
Alright which one of you started this petition , Woys not impressed http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/26442914
"He deserves to be in this 30-man group. He's done an awful lot of good." Seriously Woy, what the actual ****? You're deluded beyond ****ing belief.
I think he should have said "He's not done an awful lot bad". He's hasn't done an awful lot of good because he's just not good enough for International football. It's not like he's an Ashley Cole who is getting in because of his name. He's getting in because he's been consistent (albeit very average) but there are players who have performed much better this season.
FFS. This is getting annoying. Stuart Pearce of all people was on Talk ****e last night and was basically saying he'd take Smalling, Jones, Cleverley, because ManU players are so versatile you can play them in various positions, especially at the back. Then you can take a couple of extra forwards who'll win games for you. The rise of the utility player! When I was a kid that was the biggest football insult you could give. If you got a football card and it gave the player's position as utility player, you knew that he was crap. Now we are expected to pick them for England because of their versatility. What happened to picking the best player for each position. Don't know if you've noticed Woy, but that's what teams who win things do.
Exactly. What's the use of being not good enough in several positions? And how many 'utility players' in the past have been good enough at more than one position? We may as well go the whole hog now and pick Paul Warhurst.
The Man U players aren't justifying their selection at all, it's interesting Stuart Pearce view on 'utility players', maybe that's why hes forced to work at Talksport now instead of coaching the u21's. I'm still baffled as to why Caulker is anywhere near the squad and Hodgson needs to explain his reticence to pick any Hull City player when you have the likes of Huddlestone who would be ideally suited to Brazil and Livermore who is a better player than Cleverley.
