Yes i do but if i am wrong on this then so be it. At least i will admit when i am wrong. You should get into the europe league though. It would be a fine consolation for your efforts on sunday. I dislike 4th in the PL getting a CL place as well.
It normally has not been an issue. I thought they would But if so then fine, i was wrong. But it should be the same as the FA Cup ffs.
Well from 2015-16, UEFA have decided that the runners up of any cup competition will not be allowed qualification and it will be moved to a league place (like the League Cup currently).
Now that does not surprise me and so very typical of Uefa and those who frequent Uefa. It makes more sense allowing Cup runners up to grab a place more than a team that finished 4-5-6-7th ffs. It would also make sense for ALL domestic cup winners to gain entry into the CL instead of 3rd and 4th place. At least cup winners are champions of something. I much preferred the old system of League Champions = European Cup, Cup-Winners-Cup and Uefa Cup.
It makes more sense for a team who loses a cup final after a handful of games, which could all have been against teams from lower leagues to be entered in a competition than a team finishing 4th? On which planet? Of course the European Cup ideally would be played between the Champions of each country on a knock out basis. Cup Wiiners would be in a Cup Winners Cup and lower placed league clubs would, as before, have their own competition, which was often harder to win and had better games. Which won't happen again as it results in too few matches to screw money out of TV and fans.
Exactly. There's no chance UEFA would go back to the original (and better) rules as it would cost them loads of money every year compared to now.
Correct. UEFA have messed up 3 competitions into 2 and of the 2 one is mullered by many. The CL only gets interesting after the group stages. Again money wins and always will now sadly.
Why is 6th in the PL any worse than the league cup runners up getting into Europe? I'd rather we were represented by Everton and Liverpool in Europe than by Sunderland and Bradford.
Absolutely. I can understand a cup winner getting a Europe place, but the runner-up getting in has always struck me as an odd idea.
I agree with PLT among others as the 6th/7th placed teams are likely to be of higher quality than whomever gets runner up in the cup. Case example: In 2011/12, Stoke and Birmingham went into Europe whereas Liverpool, who finished 6th, werent. Fair play Birmingham won the cup, but I would prefer Liverpool be there than Stoke.
I won't be complaining if we get into Europe by being runners up in the FA cup this year, but I do think it's a daft rule in terms of getting the best teams into Europe.
