How cheap do you want it? Baring in mind the lowest you can charge is £15. If we can't fill a small stadium like ours for a quarter final when the away allocation is a sell out you have to ask if the city deserves a successful club. Of course, no matter the price or what the score is there will be an exodus starting with 10 minutes left.
I forgot that the regional FA's all get a ticket allocation for the final. It's a daft system, you get 32,000 for the semi-final, but only 25,000 for the final.
It is bizarre that we can fill the ground for most league games, but not for a quarter final cup game which is cheaper.
Yes mate I have, but why should I travel all the way from Pompey for a Sunday 2pm kick off, not knowing what sort of journey I will have on the Sunday evening what with Rail works etc all the way down. Some things make common sense and I think I am right to give this particular game a miss and watch in my own front room. It wont be the same obviously but its all to do with using a bit of grey matter and also the economics of it all.
Im afraid the clubs have brought it on themselves by devaluing the competition and playing largly reserve sides. If the clubs were prepared to lower the prices they would probably get a big demand for tickets at this stage of the competition but our club doesn't seem to see that or maybe it is the opposition who also have a say in the prices.
Just bought my tickets online while on the bus. Forgot all about tickets. Me and the young lad taking a holiday to E6 for this match. Website pretty speedy. Pretty much only single seats left in e6 now.
I would suspect there would be a little more interest if Jelavic and Long were available ? The FA needs to look at the cup-tied rule as I don't see the point of it now we have a transfer window.
A weakened side is a bullshit reason not to go. The tickets aren't especially overpriced, but they should have realised that after getting 10, 000 in the last round, the last thing we needed to do was increase the prices
It's a sad state of affairs that we haven't sold out yet. People shouldn't need co-ercing to attend a game of this magnitude. As I said on another thread, it was 1971 when we last got this far and played at home in the QFs. We have a better chance of progressing this time. Back in '71 it was a 42,000 sell out many days before the game and the atmosphere in Hull was electric. Could the club be talking it up more? Yes, but no one seems interested in doing so. Could the local media be talking it up more? Yes but bear in mind some Rovers larker has been plugged outside a Wigan nightclub which is evidently far more newsworthy. Anyone reading this without a valid reason for not attending is a ****.
Yes i think you certainly have a good enough excuse for me you do well travelling all the way for any game, i am aiming at the more local fans enjoy the game on the TV
Also worth noting that back in 1971 the 4th round saw a crowd of 34,000 for the game against Blackpool, the 5th round one of just under 30,000 for the game against Brentford but crowds of 24,000 and 25,000 for the league games in between. If memory serves me right the prices were actually dearer for the Stoke game than a league game. Yet now we have people complaining when the price for this cup game is less than a league game.
£20 and £5 for kids. How cheap do you want the prices FFS? Presume you won't be going to Wembley what with the higher prices and travelling?
If we were playing the likes of Man city, Chelsea, Liverpool, United etc the crowd would be rammed. It's because we're playing Sunderland. It's a shame people have overlooked that this is a massive chance for City. And to think some people were moaning about not having a home fixture in the cup in the previous rounds. But you knew this would happen.
Blackpool in 71 were a rubbish Div1 team heading down into City's division. Still 34 000 there though. Stoke were very unglamorous back in 71 with only Banks who was vaguely famous.
Times have changed. We hadn't lost a generation of fans. The Premier League wasn't in existence & hadn't turned people into glory seeking meffs. And TV hadn't turned people into coach potatoes. And the cup & cup glory was valued more.
Sunderland is a one club city. 40,000 fans regular watch them at the SoL. We can only dream of support like that. And with a stadium restricted to under 25,000 it would be impossible even if we could count on 40,000 supporters every week. They don't have two rugby league clubs sniping away at them and trying to gain the upper hand in morality, support, sponsorship, popularity, media coverage, and anything else that puts them and their sport on a pedestal above football, or 'soccer' as they like to call us.
Plus this game is on TV and I guess many a lard arse will be sat at home watching with a can of lager and a chip butty. Same people will suddenly be down at the KC like the clappers if we reach the semis of course, claiming they never miss a game!
The FA Cup was still THE tournament to win in those days. It attracted all the attention. Also there was no need to apply for tickets, because Boothferry Park could still get 40,000 in with no trouble. The walk-up support was tremendous. Which is why the local media, which in those days was basically the Hull Daily Mail and Sports Mail really built the game up with loads of positive coverage leading up to the game. Everyone read the HDM and they were in the business of selling papers so the City coverage was excellent. It was only 50p to get in if I remember correctly. Everyone could afford to go without it being a major decision. And at £20 for Sundays match, which we all kid ourselves is cheap, it isn't and the game is live on ITV. The Blackpool or the Stoke games back in 1970/71 were not live on the telly and I doubt if there was even live commentary on the radio. Even for the Stoke quarter final which was a massive deal at the time the match was not made all ticket. Today everything is different. Applying for tickets puts people off, not being able to stand/sit with friends is another no-no, the game being shown live on telly doesn't help, neither does the low profile the match has received so far this week. The club should be really promoting this match. WE ARE 90 MINUTES FROM A WEMBLEY APPEARANCE FFS!
Should we get past SAFC, it makes you wonder what (if any) plans the club has to exploit the commercial opportunities. T shirts, flags, hats, whatever......you just hope they have summat up their sleeve. Perhaps Mally Welburn could be drafted in to assist with a Wembley shed or book?
