I just wondered, what are peoples actual costs for watching Charlton play at the valley. As in everything, the cost of travel, the ticket (broken down per game if season ticket), food there, food before etc etc. I've been budgeting a bit lately and keen to budget in the cost of going but be quite nice to see the average costs we all have and how it differs. Maybe even some money saving tips!
Hmm, I'm sorting a trip to get the last three matches in March. Staying with friends, and tying it in to other things, but will be lucky to get the travel & Charlton cost at under £300. Probably not what you were thinking though
Transport- nil, I either cycle or use freedom pass Program- £3:00 Bovril or drinking chocolate; £1:70 Average cost of game(NW concession season ticket) : £8:00 Total cost; £12:70.
Travel - I use my monthly oyster card, so nothing. Beers - usually meet up around midday with some friends, watch a bit of the early kick off on Sky/BT so probably spend £20-£30 on rounds. Few beers at half time (if you can get to the kiosk), and drinks afterwards in cross bars is another £40odd. Bets - £20 average.
In recent months I've been abroad or somewhere within the UK more often than not, so the cost of getting back to London has been a real financial burden, but on a normal match day I will spend - £20 petrol to and from Charlton £5 parking £10 jackpot tickets (I've never won a bean!) £3 programme £2 fanzine (when available) £5-10 charity donations (when present) £25-75 food and drinks before, during, and after the game (dependent on guests) £10-100 club-shop (dependent on guests, but I have spent over £200 on new kits) It's an expensive hobby following Charlton, especially when the kids bring their friends along.
When I'm back in Blighty: Train ticket - £8.60 Match ticket - £22-26 depending on where I choose to sit (not a season ticket holder any more) Programme - £3 I seldom buy food from the catering kiosks. Total ~ £35
Travel - £10 in diesel Match Ticket - £13.04 (North Lower Adult Season Ticket) Food - £5.50 (Pre match Burger/Half time Mars Bar) Drink - £1.90 (Half Time Bovril) Total - £30.44 I stopped buying the programmes but will occasionally buy VOTV to read the scare-mongerings of that given month.
ticket - season ticket travel - petrol for 4 miles parking - free, near macro food - bring stuff with us or pop in to sainsburys first (£3), curry post match (£10) drink - bring tea (not paying £2 for hot water) programme - only if its got something interesting in it charity - starts at home (already give elsewhere anyway) it was beginning to get too costly so we cut down to the above...
Around £15 in travel Usually get a burger before kick off Adult North Lower season ticket Stopped buying programmes to save a few pennies.
Doc -can I recommend to you the spam fritters in the chippy in Floyd Road? The old cow who works behind the jump in there recognises me now, and puts one in the fryer when she spots me in the mile long queue
At the moment, Oviedo. I'm a third year German and Spanish student spending this academic year in Spain in a vain attempt to improve my Spanish. At the moment, it doesn't extend much beyond 'NO - SPEAKO - DAGO'.
haha, it is worrying when on the menu you can order a "meat curry", without it specifying what sort of meat it is. good value though.
Season Ticket: £20 (Roughly works out per match) Travel: 4-miles Programme: £3 Food: £3 (Sandwich / Crisps and Drink from Co-Op in the Village)
reading this, it seems no one buys food at the valley. i cant blame everyone, one of the things i put on that survey a while back was the burgers were p1ss poor. not even hot. if they wanted a better income from us, they'd sort out the food and the pricing
Occasionally I'll buy a Burger or something from the Valley but thats usually when me and a mate go on a piss up beforehand (where we usually get food as well) but when we get to the Ground we're still craving something to eat so we'll get a burger even though we hate them lol!
Agree, food inside the ground is poor and has been since I can remember. My burger van of choice is the one opposite the club shop, £4.00 for a double cheeseburger isnt bad value when 8 times out of 10 you get it piping hot in a bun that isnt so stale its falling apart. My one complaint with it (and its a real minor one) that they call them double cheeseburgers and only put one slice of cheese in them!
