All his successes? I'm not going to even bother. We beat Leicester this season, why could we not beat them again, why did they turn into this super team and we are bottom 3, If you can beat them once in late August why can't you do it again in march? Why do you say it's not unacceptable to lose to a team you have already beaten. This is why Powell fecked up and all the spinning and hiding behind his successes (really) won't make relegation any easier. Oh and Powell said I'm happy it was only 3....FFS.
Because its a Sport... Because whoever you go out to play not one side has the given right to beat the other... Anything can happen, Football is so unpredictable (If it wasnt I would have won a massive accumulator months ago and I'd be travelling the world right now) which is why I love the game... How else can you explain Bradford getting to the Carling Cup Final last season or should Phil Parkinson be sacked because he didnt manage it this time...
Keeping you up Jimmy? You can always try not to impose your unique brand of humor on a post that you have no interest on. When other people do it, you get all sand in your knickers and start crying.
Yes, all his successes as Charlton manager. Champions of League 1 and 9th in the Championship last season are successes. "If you can beat them once in late August why can't you do it again in march?" - football doesn't work like that. Lots of things change over the course of a season, and the superior quality that Leicester have results in their much higher league position. Why not give him the credit for overseeing one win over them this season, when we had no real right to take any points off them at all? With the players they have, and in particular the money they've spent, it's not unacceptable for us to lose to them. That doesn't mean I'm happy we lost. As Alan Curbishley once said: http://www.theguardian.com/football/2007/dec/12/newsstory.westhamunited
I don't recall Alan ever saying he was happy losing 3.0 when we were 3 points off bottom and looking good to get relegated. Time and a place for everything. That is the secret of success. And please div 1 champions. That's like winning a fish when your on holiday.
Didn't Ackworth get banned for posting lots of threads and comments about the same thing over and over?
If that was the case then about twenty of you would be banned for saying We won the 1st division title. We finished 9th last season. Lord Powell is learning his trade. He does put round pegs in square holes but he will get it right
If you keep asking the same question/making the same point, you will keep getting the same answers, make a different point for a change & you will get a different response
But it's in reply to Vol's threads in the first place... if he didn't make them or always turn them into these anti-powell things it wouldn't happen. I'm all up for debate and all but ALL of us are just putting the same argument, Vol wanting Powell gone, yes we know he does, we don't need to keep hearing it. And then our response to it. Ooops, just seen my point's just been made
really? maybe he should go to Sochi and talk to the brave guys and gals about to complete for their countries at the Paralympics. Go tell each person who lost feeling in their spine and then took up skiing that winning is all that matters. He also obviously didn't know much about sportswomen if he methinks they're more prone to excuses. And given you're so fond of war analogies, go looking at Northern Ireland and see what happens when you refuse to compromise and appease. We lost to a team that's got stronger whilst we sell our best players, including the guy that always scored against Leicester. Powell was realistic in that that one game is unlikely to determine our position at the end of the season. Lose 3-0 at home to Huddersfield next week and the reaction of all on this forum will be very different, as would Powell's
That is utter bollocks. Valley redemption. If you want to lecture on winning and the Paralympics then get the prospective right. Nobody says that winning is all that matters but rolling over and showing your arse as a manager does not set the right tone. It is a insult to the people that pay their money to watch. The point of the thread is was that the right thing to say? Having a nephew who competed in the paraolympics he would have wanted to win, he didn't , but he tried, he didn't turn round and say he was happy to finish 6th, he wanted to win. he tried to win, he didn't but he competed. Nobody patronised him and said he was not good enough or made excuses. He didn't . That is winning. He didn't have anyone talking for him, Powell spoke for the team and the club-he was happy losing 3,0 why? Was that what you call winning, oh and by the way, is winning the 'war' in Northern Ireland also allowing the Hyde park bomber go free, is that success? Is that proper considered appeasement? Pathetic cowering down to terrorism, is that winning? Is that not insulting to the dead and their families? Is that compromise ? Letting a murderer go in the name of compromise because you have an excuse. Get some balls. Standing up and doing the brave thing is winning. Not hiding behind lame excuses.
I knew you lot would get it eventually. You had ja banned for something you all do all the time. We all do it, it's a forum.
if you want to lecture in perspective learn to spell it. Being related to every single Paralympian, my view is obviously more valid. Given that this is the first time Powell has used that defence, and it echoes what some of us were thinking, I think it is the right things to say. Telling our only 11 match ready players that they're gutless wonders isn't going to achieve anything. And sorry to have brought Politucs into it... I'll not rise to the eye for an eye argument.
Then what are you saying? Other than being patronising and climbing down from your original point, you are saying that Powells timing was right? A week before the biggest game of his managerial career and the biggest game for most of his players? Are you saying that comment was well timed . How so? Are you saying that the 500 fans that attended are happy to have also lost 3.0 and 'some' of the fans that losing is acceptable? We have to win 10 games in my opinion to stay up, throwing games away is totally unacceptable. If that is what you mean? If that is the case then Powell should say BEFORE the matches if he would be happy to lose. Oh and I didn't spell perspective wrong.
