BBC Sport report RD as saying we must accept our best players may be sold to Standard Liege. Full interview on BBC Late Kick off tonight www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/26418684
Least it's finally offical, we all had some sort of feeling this was going to happen.... lets hope we stay up and he might realise we are far more than a feeder club and have a chance to play in the prem within 2 years
Hmm, I'm not reading into this too much. Like the article says - Champions League for one season =£8m. Premier League Football for one season = £120m. He is a business man after all. I know which one I would pick as 'my favourite child'.
I don't like to say I told you so.... If the previous board had issued this statement there would have been a cardigan riot but we have heard nothing from the self proclaimed kings of the knitwear, zilch nada, nothing, nil. I wonder what the trust have not come out on this and are just sitting idly by?
How can our players be sold to Standard Liege... terrible journalism... Either that or Roland is gonna find it very difficult trying to get hold of the owner of Charlton if Standard Liege want to buy Jordan Cousins or Diego Poyet for example... As Roland has shown so far he's only transferred players to this club (from the others) who arent getting First-Team Football which means I dont think he'll do any differently with Charlton... At the end of the day he's a businessman so if he wants to make money he wont make it from sending Cousins or Poyet to Liege but by selling them to Premier League sides for as much money as he can squeeze out of them and I dont believe it'll be the pittance we received for Jenkinson or Shelvey i.e. he sold Axel Witsel a Liege YTS to Benfica for $40m... (not saying we'll get that for Cousins or Poyet though)
He actually only went for 8million euros. And then got a 40million euros buy out clause as part of his contract at Benfica. See link. http://espnfc.com/news/story/_/id/9...-of-belgium-international-axel-witsel?cc=5739 But it does say Roland was not happy about this. Which backs up what he has been saying about not letting players go until they have reached their full monetary potential.
Just read that if two teams owened by the same person qualifies for Europe only one can play... so if by some miracle we win the FA Cup we might not even play in Europe because of Roland owning Liege as they will qualify for at least the Europa League if not Champions league IF we missed out on Europe because of him I will not be happy, he's done nothing to help us so far, this team minus Astrid (as in the starters on the weekend) were all from the old regime.
How depressing was that interview ? Wow - for sheer, world class lack of ambition and short term cynicism, it really took some beating. Our club has existed for longer than his country has been a democracy, yet RD walks in and starts importing his Euro trash ideas. For those who have yet to see it~: 1. RD was attracted by our Academy. 2. He sees it as v. likely that there will be a lot of player movement between his clubs. 3. He may sell Charlton players to Standard Liege (clear conflict of interest) Just imagine the conversation when the owner of Standard Liege approaches the owner of Charlton about signing Diego Poyet... Liege Owner RD : "'ow much would you like for Poyet?" Charlton Owner RD : "eeehh ten million euros" Liege Owner RD: "'ow about 500,000 euros" Charlton owner RD: "I will take it, thanks" The whole situation is absolutely laughable. Charlton should be better than a shop window for an obscure Belgian club playing in a ****e league FFS! p.s: How Richard Murray has got the front to still be hanging around after this is beyond belief!
The one crumb of comfort I would have is this: if he can get Charlton into the Premier League he stands to make considerably more money (£120 million) than he does from Standard Liege getting into the Champions League. That may mean that he prioritises us. His goal is to make money for the whole of his network, which wouldn't happen by selling Cousins for nothing to Liege.
I don't think we are any sort of priority here to be honest. That may change in time, but the current outlook is crap tbh.
He probably got tipped off by TJ & MS that he might be an asset... The obvious Charlton mouthpiece to appease the saps, with the added bonus for RD, that there's already a history of many fans falling for the double talk...
Even if true, Jordan Cousins and Rhoys Wiggins are our only saleable playing assets. Diego Poyet is out of contract in the summer and Chris Solly is crocked, everyone else is either out of contract in the summer, not good enough to play higher or both.
it really doesn't take a lot to outwit Dicky now does it I said at the very start of this takeover that it sounds a bit rum to me and nothing has happened to change my mind....... I still expect Chris to leave in the summer and one of the Rat's puppies to take over.
