Andy Carroll for Liverpool: 44 PL games, 6 goals. Soldado for Tottenham: ~25 games all comps (~23 PL), 9 goals (6 PL), 4 assists (all PL). Are you sure Soldado is that big a flop? (We're agreed Carroll is.) If you point out that 4 of Soldado's 6 PL goals were pens, I would point out that he's had more passes before the assist than anyone else (in my recollection--but by a fair margin; it seemed like he started all the moves which led to goals the first dozen games or so), and so has probably had a hand in creating more goals than anyone on our team.
Where did I say that? Plus we sold Andy for £15m and got £2m loan fee and he wages are probably £50k less per week than Soldada
We can all see that Soldado is neither a roaring success nor hopeless failure. £26M was paid for a player who was a regular goalscorer in Spain and who Spurs hoped would be their Aguero or Suarez - so you'd be hard pressed to give him more than 5/10. He's a decent player but fallen short of expectations at that price. if he was 23 years old and had been picked up for £10M, you'd be hopeful that he would develop and improve.
HIAG isn't one person. We are a collective of world class Spurs wums whose mission is to fill our coy pond. Our members take it in turn hunt. We are each judged on our monthly strike-rate, and cash-prizes are awarded to top three.
HIAG has caught a real tiddler today who cannot find his way out of the pond. Throw the small fry back, HIAG.
You didn't, I realized a minute after I posted it. That's why I corrected my post--but not before you replied to it, obviously. You replied within three minutes. It's nice you seem to hang on my every word. But what you did say rates Soldado as a bigger flop than a number of other players inaccurately, IMO. To speak only of those relatively few strikers with Liverpool connections. Soldado 6 goals 4 assists ? 4 goals 3 assists I'll give you a hint. It came from THFC's Chelsea-Tottenham match thread. I couldn't agree more. Headlines pick out one number and imply that it says everything. Buying an expensive striker who's been a poor finisher for us makes him a disappointment, no doubt. The fact that he's been an excellent playmaker, has gotten us a lot of points, and in truth doesn't have such bad stats make him more of a mild to medium disappointment so far than a flop.
...the fact you set your alarm for 7.30 the next morning to tell him is sad and hilarious in equal measure.
