Depends if they have a relegation clause in their contract..... Do foreign larkers still rate the FA cup?
I can see the logic in what you're saying but it seems to good to be true. I think, rightly or wrongly, they'll be up for it.
I think they all like baubles and trinkets. It also puts them on the world stage, so relegation could just be an opportunity to move on. At the end of the day, if we need help to get past Sunderland, it doesn't augur well for the next game.
I didn't get where I am today by calling it right for future games Basically, it's a big unknown and it's Gus' call. But it's our best ever chance of making the semis- playing a team at home below us in the league. Not Arsenal away or Stoke at home in 71 when we were in Div 2. Hopefully someone will get the message through to the people in charge at HCFC- this is massive for us.
Here's what happened in 71 Anlaby Rd gridlocked from about 1130 as I recall.....
Quite right CJ. Too young for '71 - sounds mencap though. We have a situ I could on dream wet about during the Dolan epoch - sadly, my City supporting peak.
It was impressive 71 - sure someone older will recall it better. Apart from BP being gridlocked with people, I remember being in the ground at 1.15 and it was already fuller than most games at 2.30. Some kid tried to buy my ticket off me for 50p. Cost me 15p.
Four of us young pals all went in the Well for that match because one of the dads was worried about the crush there'd be in the South stand when Boothferry Park was bursting with forty two thousand people.
Just had a quick gander on RTG (Sunlan forum). Now, it’s not exactly a thinking man’s forum and obviously they don’t pick the team, but they seem well up for progress in the FA Cup.
Will never forget that game, which along with the 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge in '66, when Waggy scored both in the 6th round match, ranks a favourite. Packed... my mate (from Hull too) & me hitched from Leeds where we were living at the time and barely made it into the ground...squeezed in at the last minute into the top N/E corner...couldn't hardly move. Waggy scored his 2 goals past Banks at the other end if I recall - there was pandemonium. I'll never forget Conroy's goal....changed the game it did. Took us 'til almost midnight to hitch back to Headingley in Leeds. Brilliant.
In fairness it didn't seem like a dive to me, it was just ridiculously far outside the area. It seems as though refs are happy to give anything borderline as a penalty for teams like Stoke and West Ham. The amount of debatable penalties those two get between them is ridiculous. We haven't had one for about 6 months now and this isn't unusual. I've been whining about penalties for about 5 years now. People say it evens itself out over the course of a season. In that case how come we never get more than 3-4 pens a season whereas the likes of Palace get 12-15? You can't even apply the same argument as you can with the big sides (that they have the ball in and around the area more often) because Palace in particular really don't. Particualrly under Pulis their possession in games is extremely low, yet as soon as they get the ball they seem to get a penalty!
I think the reason we see loads of penalties given to teams such as Stoke and West Ham is because referees seem to have this 'fear' of the fans there. The Stoke pen against Arsenal is a very good case in point - none of the Stoke players appealed, yet the entire stadium did. It was never a penalty imo either. Spurs' pen against us at WHL is another great example - not one Spurs player appealed, but that entire stand behind the goal did. Referee gave into the pressure, gave the penalty. Tbf Leicester have won around 12-15 this season but from memory watching FLS the majority of them were right calls, which is very unusual.
'Hostile' home crowds play a big part definitely. I hate these places for that reason. The media and everyone go on about what a great atmosphere it is at places like The Britannia and Selhurst Park but it's really just being a **** and appealling for everything (and getting it). The Stoke one, you can guarantee would have been a foul on the defender if a City player did that. He basically ninja kicked Koscielny in midair which did take place after the 'handball' but it still would have been a foul and an excuse not to give a penalty if it was us at the KC.
I thought it looked like a tough one for the ref and I could understand his call. Of course if I was a Swansea supporter, I'd be irked. Palace did my head in last year and I began to despise them. But after their show of solidarity with us this season, I have respect for them now and providing it doesn't interfere with us, will be happy to see them stay up.
A very good sunday for Hull City. Norwich and Cardiff lost and the Swansea v Palace game ended in a draw. Nice one.
