No need for communication if the defender can boot it out of danger .Not rocket surgery, just fundamentals imo
There is a difference between idiotic trust as you use the example of the Man City game (a game I watched too I might add), and the trust that Amat got out of the way the last second, only for Vorm to pull out too, apples and oranges.
Lads that's the second post within the last hour I have had to edit or delete because of references to posters. There is no need for it. Let's stick to debeting the match etc please
That was a disgraceful, putrid second half performance, possibly the worst by us that I can remember. Don't even think of comparing it to the West Ham game, a team that had drawn with Chelsea and then went on a run of of 4 successive wins. They were hitting form and they were at home. Palace have an appalling away record, hardly score away, were totally outplayed in the first half then allowed to come back at us and nearly win the game. Someone mentioned the Monk training regime earlier. Yeah, very impressive. NOT!! And before people start bleating about us being tired from the Napoli game, just remember that Laudrup had to contend with this ALL SEASON. Monk had just two key players missing for this game, Laudrup had five, six, seven or more missing for large chunks of his tenure, so I am not accepting this an excuse. No f*****g way! Someone else posted that it was Amat's mistake, not Monk's. So who subbed him on then? Did the anti-Laudrup brigade make the same excuses when Shelvey cost us 2 points against Liverpool? When Williams cost us 2 points against Hull? When player's mistakes cost us results in other games? Oh no. Blank silence. It was always Laudrup's fault. Well, lads, here's a wake-up call, Monk was equally guilty today and cost us two valuable, expected points. Furthermore, his substitutions were crass. Was Bony injured? If so, fair enough but he brought Lita on. Lita for ffs!! Even Alvaro offers more than him; at least Alvaro has pace and he has movement to pull defenders out of position. I suppose this was tight wad Jenkins trying to get a few bob of his money back before the player leaves. Tongue in cheek that but I have no doubt that Monk is Jenkins' puppet something that Laudrup would never tolerate, which is one of the reasons he is no longer with us. Why was Williams subbed? Was HE injured? If he wasn't, it was as unprofessional a decision as you could hope to see. He is our captain, our organiser and we were UNDER THE COSH. Fatigue is not an excuse, neither is a minor niggle because there is a long rest break ahead. The simple fact is this. In the second half, Palace got a grip on our throat and we couldn't cope with it - this against a team below us in the table and playing at OUR home ground. As bad as we were against West Ham we never plumbed the depths as we did in the second half today. It was horrendous. Pub team doesn't begin to describe it and Laudrup NEVER presided over anything as bad as that, the Liverpool v our second team apart. Monk? I never accepted that one win against a positively dire Cardiff team made him a good manager. By the same yardstick I'm not going to say that today's performance makes him a bad one. But he's got it all to prove. Welcome to the real world, Garry. It's a lot harder actually doing this managerial thing than griping behind someone's back about how they are doing it. And it will take a lot more than a few jokes with the lads and being "Mr Popular" to put right what was wrong in that second half today. Anything remotely resembling a repeat of that totally abysmal performance will see us hurtling towards relegation. Do I think it will happen? No I don't but I think that the manager, the players, the coaches and the board will have to take a long, hard look at themselves and start acting like professionals..... or it might. Will I back Monk? Of course I will because I care what happens to my team and if he gets things right I'll be very happy to acknowledge it and give him due praise. Let's hope that the next two weeks will be productive in getting us back on track.
I'll tell you one thing, the board have been very quiet and there hasn't been any news on potential new managers. If we were to bring somebody in before the end of the season, given we don't play for a couple of weeks, now would be the ideal time.
Resorting to swearing at me? Come on, man... This is a football forum, act like an adult. You're not a WUM, but this comment is: "Not when the keeper is 5 yards away from you and running towards the ball I haven't, have you?". You know full well that there are loads of examples? I can't go online and find you video clips because where am I going to find clips of this kind of thing? If you watch the Swans, which I know you do, I know that you'll have seen this happen in the past. I wholly believe in trust, but I don't believe in bad decision making. Trust should never justify a bad decision. Every pass made is a decision. Take Leon - why does he mostly pass sideways? Because he looks at who is available to pass to and makes the best decision based on what pass has the highest success rate. Why does Ash sometimes slide tackle and sometimes standing tackle? Because he looks at the situation and decides if he needs to be on his feet or not after the challenge, or whether sliding will enable him to reach a ball that he couldn't standing. It's all about decision making. You trust that your players will make the right decisions with and without the ball. IMO, Amat shouldn't even see Vorm. He should have eyes for the ball and deal with it. Maybe Vorm was trusting that Amat would deal with it? Ever think that? Okay, you think otherwise. Whatever. You're wrong, but I can live with that. Haha okay, now that was a WUM.
Yet in CPs last 8 games against sides in the bottom half they have picked up 23 points out of a possible 27. Not that bad are they considering this.
The point is Amat should not have been on the pitch for a crucial 3 points to close out, he has not had enough game time, Monk is clearly at fault for taking our Captain off, looks like it could well be a rough ride with Monks idiotic substitutions.................
I agree with this post. I have no idea who is advising Monk with team selection and subs. We select players against Everton, in the 5th round, who have not played for months. We rest two vital players, Britton and Rangel in what was potentially one of our biggest games, then return for this game but we otherwise select pretty much the same remaining players. Pulis soaks up the pressure in the first half and when he is behind and we are tiring in the second puts the pressure on. We use all three subs with twenty minutes still to play including taking off our skipper. Bony was struggling in the tight spaces but he would have at least won the odd header and held the ball up to ease the pressure. I was at the wrong end to see their goal but I think it began when the ball fell loose outside their box, normally our full backs fill that space and keep the move going, but again I think they were sitting back ( like Napoli). Disappointing.
Anyone noticed that Sunderland have 2 games in hand, and Palace and WBA have one game in hand? It could get very tight with Monks substitutions!..........
Sorry man, didn't mean to go off on one like that, but no my point is not wumming, its honestly my opinion. The moment Vorm made an attempt to reach the ball, is the moment Vorm took control of the situation and was his to deal with. If not, why else run at the ball other than to make Amat think twice? The ball was at an awkward height for both, but the momentum of the ball was in Vorm's favour as he could have used his chest like he has done in the past and the danger was gone, so for me personally, Amat did the right thing, Vorm was the one who should have either backed off sooner and let Amat deal with it, or not pulled out. But by pulling out last second, he left Amat with very little to work with. And for me Amat trusted Vorm to come out and clear it, as he was in the better position of all 3 in the group of players trying to get the ball. Defenders like a keeper that is willing to take control, and when I watched it, I thought exactly that, that Vorm was taking control, but why he pulled out I honestly have no idea.
No excuse today , they were shocking poor in the first half because we made them look that way , poor decision making today cost us and keeps us still waiting the break into the 30's points and upwards ,play like that again why should we think we'll get any more than we deserve .
Yeah, I fully agree. I posted on it a few pages back - the substitutions were suicide given that we have 2 weeks off now. I think Monk thought the second half would be a stroll like the first half. Pulis had his tactics bang on and let us pass ourselves to sleep in the first half, got their foot on our throat at the start of the second half and kept up the pressure for 45 minutes. If the brick wall that they built in the first half hadn't been breached (by a fantastic move by us, I must add), we'd be licking our wounds from a defeat right now. We looked like a team in need of a break during that second half - we've got one now, so no excuses come the West Brom game!
I agree, but I'm just pointing out the run CP have been on when some are pointing out the run WHU have been on. That second half was as dire as CP in the first half.
The penalty (it wasn't) fiasco. Coaching principles, when I was doing it*, always dictated that the man coming onto the ball (Vorm) takes responsibility; the man who has best sight of the situation (Vorm) deals with it. Of course, this is akin to painting by numbers and there will always be those grey areas where a misunderstanding can happen. Today was one. Amat could have, perhaps should have, ignored the manual and booted the ball away any way he could. Vorm should have been more aggressive with the situation and dealt with it. In the end neither did anything and exposed poor Chico who had to concede the foul. Perhaps they'd better buy him a few drinks tonight. * They'd only just started using nets then.
"so no excuses come the West Brom game". Hmm,don't share your optimism. There are many more excuses that haven't seen the light of day yet. Watch this space.
"No excuse today". Not so Matthew, apparently they were "fatigued". That's The Swans',not Palace,by the way.
What a fantastic display and game plan by monk today that justifies him being made our permanent manager for next season. You have to admire how he has turned the way we play around...We were 83% for nearly all the first half and not much less in the second half where players were taken off for fatigue and carrying knocks. Its a shame we never got the 3 points but at least we got another point towards safety which is more or less guaranteed playing like we are. Our finishing is letting us down a bit and bony was struggling and it was the right decision to take him off, Lita was the only natural replacement on the bench and as he has done well in training deserved to come on....Palace before today were a form team but they never had a look in in the first half and in the second half you could see the team were tiring after some intense football took its toll over the past 10 days. It took palace a penalty to save them and it was deserved penalty, Well that's 5 points out of 9 and well on the way to safety....You have to give a pat on the back to monk and the players for coming through a mad few weeks and some great football that saw the liberty buzzing again......thank god most of the players will have a nice well earned rest to recharge their exhausted batteries.....they need it after the games they have played and come out with credit...
