To put it simply both are different types of players. Both are good at what they do and I am glad we have both of them in our squad. I don't get the whole moaning over which one is playing etc. Can't we just be happy we have both? And that our DM is probably one of the best in the league? Morgan,Cork,Wanyama and Reed is great for a team like us.
Can play there yeah. He is a battling midfielder. Prowse has also played there for England so our DM is easily our strongest position.
Ha ha. Not quite romantic but, obviously I like him. However, in my defence, I haven't compared Wanyama to Cork in this thread. Earlier on I even made a case that maybe Cork wasn't as effective as I like to give him credit for. However, I would like to see anyone try and explain to me that he wasn't poor yesterday. If you really want to do your research, you can also note that in threads before his injury I was describing Wanyama as "immense". All I can say that in his games since then he has been appalling.
The problem for Cork is that he's competing with Schneiderlin, rather than Wanyama, for the CM who controls the game's tempo and sprays put passes out wide efficiemtly, something Wanyama isn't great at. Although Cork has been better than Wanyama this season (IMO), nobody offers the same defensive contribution as Wanyama due to his strength and positioning. Davis battles throughout the game and runs everywhere, and Morgan doesn't look as much of an attacking threat as he did last season, Cork's never been an attacking threat and Gaston's probably too risky to start due to not tracking back much and also his weak tackling qualities, so I think Davis' position is safe.
Don't worry, I think this is a pretty unique view. I'd take our defence minus Fonte for Agger, Schneiderlin for Henderson and Lallana for Coutinho from our team. That's it.
I agree it is. I've actually been pretty complementary to Saints on here, but some comments have annoyed me. Some people, not everyone, just don't like giving us credit. We were a bit lucky yesterday - true, but what about the other 56 points? Apparently only Suarez is good, apart from the fact Sturridge is second behind him on goals scored in the league - 3 above Aguero who everybody raves about. We're top goal scorers in the league. Only 33% of our goals have been scored by Suarez which is a telling stat. Suarez is top on assists in the league - who's second? Gerrard - who's past it. Henderson has been excellent, Sterling has really developed and Cortinho has been very good too. The key to our success has been the fact we play very well as a team - with obvious qualities in forward positions. Our defence has been poor - but I would factor that our first choice LB has been out for months, first choice RB has been out for months, and our new first choice CB (Sakho) is also injured - as in Lucas, as has Gerrard and Cortinho and Suarez was banned for the first 6 games and we were top then. I think we've done well - and I think Southampton have too.
Obviously disappointed with yesterday but must admit I'm pleased Liverpool are in the mix. Nicer fans on the whole than the other big teams, rich heritage but without the sense of entitlement. I also like the city. The difference would be closer without Suarez, but you could say that about any team and their top striker. Even without him you would beat us more times than not.
Cheers I agree. Southampton has many similarities to Liverpool really, also a good set of fans. I think you did very well to motivate youselves given the fact you haven't got much to play for. Well safe, and not much can be achieved looking up. I keep saying it - but you should have gone for the cup! - I was really annoyed you got Ramirez who we had been linked to for ages!
We got similar arguments from opposition in the Championship season: remove Lambert/Lallana and we'd never have gotten automatic promotion, therefore we weren't really all that good. Which is silly: having players who are very good at things tends to be one of the hallmarks of teams that are very good at things, and it isn't exactly a mark against you if taking your star players out of the picture would negatively affect your performance.
I also don't like it when people moan that that they would have won a game if the goalkeeper hadn't played a blinder. A keeper is part of the team...he is allowed to affect the result.
