I think it is natural that friends will fall out over differing views on the name change debate. For those against the name change, it is perceived as a cheapening of something held so dear for many years for illogical, unproven reasons carried out by an unnecessarily belligerent and unpleasant individual. Genuinely (and fortunately) I have no friends who are cordial toward the name change. Every single person I consider to be friends with, are hostile to the name change. If a friend of mine supported the name change, Iâd probably see that Iâd misjudged them and see that they werenât the person I thought they were. Pro name change = a sell out, a weak person without principle. I suppose you can choose your friends and I wouldnât give that sort of gullible the time of day these days.
Don't you ever get the feeling, people find their forum persona, is more important to them, than the club ? I do.
No, I think people who support the club have genuinely differing opinions. Adults usually discuss these things rationally, but some have chosen to demonise those they disagree with causing a silly rift. Eventually there's so much childishness that grown-up discussion becomes impossible.
HEIL HITLER! don't be getting all spelling nazi on me! I can spell how I like! this is an internet forum, some of you should lighten up a bit.. or go get laid... which evers quicker, we all know about your hair trigger KK
Iv yet to meet any one who wants the name change. ( pro name change ) Just people who HATE the idea, People who don't like it...and people who aren't that fussed either way. I have friends in all 3 camps and I wouldn't fall out with any friends over it either Mr Trout. Why would I ?
It’s a question for you to answer Mr Filey as I've already told everyone my reasons. I might be wrong, but I think I’ve read you that you’re not bothered about the name change, could you confirm that for me?
I dont know any pro namers either...mind you do you blame them for staying quiet, after the way the CTWD lot go after the ppl that aren't fussed?
My best friend iv known since I was 13. He hates scooters and wouldn't be seen dead on one. I love vespas n lambrettas . He likes jimmy fooking Hendrix and bloody hippy **** music. ( edit ) I can't stand it. 45 years he's been my best mate. Different people....different opinions... Can still be good friends
or they can be seen as people that would be prepared to lose something that they have held so dear, all because of a name change, it's like your mum changing her name............. would you then cease to know and love her because of it?.
It's called maturity and life experience. Anyone who ditches a friend because they don't share opinions is a person who didn't deserve that friend in the first place.
My daughter who lives and works in Gateshead is a Rabid Newcastle United fan like her Geordie mum ( my x ) Well took the mickey on phone last night. :-( Try as hard as I did I couldn't convince her to come to BP with me to support 4th division Hull ****ty as she use to call my team. Grrrrr
It’s called having principles and sticking by them. Unfashionable these days I know. Also, I haven’t got time for any ‘friends; who are thick enough to believe Allam’s bullshit. They believe Allam’s bullshit and they’re probably reactionary walking mini-tabloids who can **** off.
You see it as something as trivial like having a different music taste to someone: arguing with a friend about who’s the best: Rolling Stones or The Beatles. I know you’ve said a few times that in the past that you’ve been involved in football hooliganism. But have you ever fought for a cause that you believe in? Or, apart from football related thuggery, have you simply said ‘you’re not bothered’ and rolled over to whatever change (no matter how unjustified) had been thrust upon you?
Some people say no-one is good enough to be their friend. It usually means no-one wants to be their friend.
