Can't believe fans of neutral clubs coming on to mock. You made it to Wembley and gave a very good account of yourselves, the only team that did better was Man City - and only just! Sa1nts, I genuinely don't understand how you think you're in a position to mock didn't Sunderland knock you out of this cup sometime back in 2013?
Well my tit, we're one game away from another Wembley appearance in the same season. You Saints fans will know all about that, seeind as how you get there every season. Actually, I'm jealous of your history what with all those trophy's you've won. We weren't outclassed. Two bits of magic done for us, that's all.
Oh my golly gosh. What's that 3 defeats on the bounce? Not the kind of form you want to have when you're down there. #nowforrelegation
'Proud' Poyet reflects on Wembley defeat Published: 02 March, 2014 by Stuart Vose Boss says he couldn't have asked any more of his players. Gus Poyet said he couldn't have asked any more of his players following a battling Wembley defeat against Manchester City. Sunderland took the lead in the Capital One Cup final through Fabio Borini's early goal, and a half-time lead was just reward for an excellent opening 45 minutes. But Yaya Toure popped up with an equaliser 10 minutes after the break – a moment Poyet admitted changed the game. Samir Nasri scored a minute later and Jesus Navas added a third goal late on, but Sunderland were in the match to the end and Poyet's pride shone through in his post-match message to the players. “I said all the way along, I wanted to see a team that showed the fans that we wanted to win the trophy and to have a go out there and I think we did that today,” he said. “We did very well, we gave Man City very few chances and we were good on the ball. “Then we just hoped that no one would come along with something spectacular, unfortunately Yaya Toure scored an absolutely world-class goal and it completely changed the game.” “He added: “We had a real good go. I made some changes to the side and the players tried their best. “We had a couple of half chances near the end and it’s sad that we’ve lost the game. “I told the players that I am very proud of them, they are very disappointed but I couldn’t have asked for any more. “Manchester City had that extra bit of class and it went in their favour today.” - Watch the full interview with Gus Poyet on SAFSee above.
In fairness we have taken a huge amount of pride from our cup final. Certainly more than you took from yours.
We beat beet our biggest northeast rival at their place 4-1. Good enough for me. Shame about the derby, not going to have another in a few years I sense.
Just ****in this ^ Not even bothered, what a weekend (so far) Love supporting the lads me Fa cup here we come
Dear Sunderland Fans, I said all the way along, I wanted to see a team that showed the fans that we wanted to win the trophy and to have a go out there and I think we did that today. We did very well, we gave Man City very few chances and we were good on the ball. Then we just hoped that no one would come along with something spectacular, unfortunately Yaya Toure scored an absolutely world class goal and it completely changed the game. We had a real good go. I made some changes to the side and the players tried their best, we had a couple of half chances near the end and it’s sad that we’ve lost the game. I told the players that I am very proud of them, they are very disappointed but I couldn’t have asked for any more. Man City had that extra bit of class and it went in their favour today. The plan we had before the game worked for the first 45 minutes, it was difficult for some players not to be involved today but that’s my job to make decisions and pick the team. We’re all down right now but we need to make sure we recover this week and come back. We’ve another chance in a cup and for sure we need to do all we can to stay in the Barclays Premier League. I lost my first-ever final as a player and then came back the next year to win; why can we not do this again? I want us to take the way we approached the game today into all of our remaining games, if we do I know we’ll be alright for sure. The fans were outstanding; they were on top of the Man City fans all of the time; they made more noise and they wanted it more. We couldn’t have approached the game better in my point of view; the players felt what it meant to the fans when we arrived at the ground. The team bus pulled up and it was an incredible feeling – the noise the fans made, I’m 100% sure they were the best fans today; I’m just disappointed we couldn’t celebrate with them. All the best, Gus Poyet
Proud of the lads today, that Man City team cost so much money but we matched them and would have won if Toure didn't score that amazing goal
Unlucky today lads, you played your part in a good final. You were sensational in the first half but the quality just shone through in the second.
