So in your estimation UB40 = fake reggae. Clash = Real reggae?

The Clash were initially a soft rock pub band (The 101ers) that jumped on the punk bandwagon.

Nope, never said The Clash were a reggae act. I said they did a better job of re-interpreting roots rock riddims in a white boy stylee.

Strummer was the only ex 101er in The Clash. And everyone jumped on the punk bandwagon after 1976, it was the only way to get a record deal. Punk morphed out of the pub rock scene anyway. Dr Feelgood were the daddies of em all.

    In my opinion.

Living around Notting Hill in the 70s, they'd have heard reggae blasting out of every open window in the summer. Before Notting Hill got over run by ****ers.

I think The Clash were vastly overrated, just never got them to be honest. Mick Jones and Joe Strummer alwys struck me as a pair of dicks. As for "Rock against the rich" , least said the better.

Yeah, they could be dicks. A truly great live act though.

I saw Mick Jones on stage a couple of years ago, with some outfit called "The Rotting Hill Mob" in a pub in front of about 25 people. ****ing brilliant night. The guy comes alive onstage.

When you're left to make your own mind up you invariably get it wrong ya fud .

E.g . "UB40 weren't a reggae band " and (my personal favourite) "The Clash were initially a pub rock band (the 101s)

    What a crock of **** .

    Daft auld **** . <laugh>

Comparing The Clash to UB40 is like comparing Elvis circa 1956 to Sir Cliff singing Mistletoe and Wine.

    FACT.

I know. That was probably Cliffy's finest moment, save Wired For Sound.
