Putting the emotion to one side: Bullard Negatives; A. Astronomical wage B. Canât sell him C. Dodgy knees D. 2 years left on his contract E. A bit of a p***head F. Possibly a bad influence on younger players G. If his knees go again we have no chance of off-loading him. Bullard Positives; A. He would walk into any Championship first team and several Premiership ones B. When he wants to play he can be a match winner C. He is a creative midfielder / we need a creative midfielder D. His knees stood up to half a season at Ipswich E. Ipswich player of the year after about 15 games F. Scored 5 goals for them Olofinjana Negatives; A. Very large wage B. For a big bloke he is a bit lightweight as a defensive midfielder C. According to Cardiff fans he is inconsistent Olofinjana Positives; A. He would walk into many Championship first teams and several Premiership managers have looked at him. B. On his day he is a very good attacking midfielder C. He is a big bugger and we lack height as a team D. He can score goals I think the Pearsons are now resigned to the likelihood that we wonât offload these two this Summer and for that reason we have lowered our targets in the transfer market to our B. list. If that is the case I think itâs time for some bridge-building by management and fans alike because when you look at purely football reasons we would be stupid not to play them.
Olofinjana now I would agree has to come back into the side. We're not bankrolling any more loan moves, and he is a handy player. So I think he has to go back into the squad if he's still with us in August. Bullard is slightly different. I would say we should put him in the squad, and go with him if fit. But he has the pay rises in his contract. Which is no one's fault but the previous regime. It does mean he needs to be played with caution. If we played him in every game next season, his wage would rise by 9k a week before 2012/13. Bullard can't just be thrown in for that reason.
Would be one of the best central midfield pairings in the division and instantly put us in the promotion race. If they leave again we'll need to bring in 2 replacements because as it stand we've got **** all else, Cairney & Harper? a sickening thought. Instead of paying them to tear up the division for our rivals common sense must prevail.
It might not be down to mere "common sense". It's possible the JB//NP+AP rift has gone too far. We don't know... But - if we can't ship JB out and he is playable, then he would be a very great asset (if he remains on his best behaviour and doesn't get injured). [Sounds very 'iffy' to me]
If you don't like it, don't post in it... As for the main subject of the thread. I think most are agreed that Bullard is better than anyone else in our midfield or any of the affordable options. Him and AP (I honestly doubt NP has had any say at all) need to sit down and have a chat, there's nothing that can't be sorted out over a pint.
If Bullard can't be offloaded, play him. Oli should be kept in my opinion, unless he wants to go (and I think he does, actually).
A midfield of Koren, Bullard, Oli and Stewart is our best hope of promotion, Cairney and Evans as cover. Get rid of Harper and dont bother signing Mckenna jobs a good un.
Potentially the best in the Championship. If Cairney could regain some of the form he had when he made his debut we'd be laughing.
Not sure it'd rival west ham's midfield... I'm not sure anyone could rival any part of west hams team.. I still don't know how they managed to finish bottom
Alcoholism? The Middle East Crisis? The 'what's best: Bitter or Lager debate'? Actually, never seen that debate on here. Bitter man myself.
isnt ghilas still on our books? ghilas- bullard-olifinjana- stewart.. expensive, but would surely kick the **** out of the championship?
In my local village pub, Carlsberg is referred to (by the locals) as "Girlsberg". It's the perfect name for the piss....
If Bullard was so goddamn good how come Ipswich didn't make the play-off's? How come no other team has said sod the money let get this 'best midfield player in the league' as he will surely guarantee promotion? Probably because they realise three things 1 - Football is a team game and one player can't win you the league, 2 - On an average/poor day he is a liability as will not tackle, 3 - He is still an injury risk and therefore a money risk. Yes, he may have played well for Ipswich, but where was that motivation when playing for us? At the end of the day, he didn't want to be here, before we wanted rid of him! He can't be short of a quid or two, so it can only be greed and a unwillingness to negotiate that is keeping him here. I don't blame Duffen/Brown too much for taking the risk, even though it was a big risk, as I was quite pleased when they got him so I wont have a go for the results. However, I will blame Bullard for his poor attitude. Rumours of drink/drugs aside, he was a complete waste of space in the latter half of our second premier league season and I will always hate him for laughing when he missed a penalty (can't remember which game) that could have got us a vital points.
