The much maligned 'SAS' has received (rightfully) great plaudits this season, but for me, the rise of Sterling has taken the duo to another level in terms of attacking threat. Now, who would of thought anyone would be saying that at the start of the season? Sturridge has hit new heights, with him and Suarez both having or being close to a 1 in 1 strike rate. Suarez is having the best season in his career and is arguably hitting his peak. But Raheem Sterling, the 19 year old who had lost most of that excitement and optimism that had surrounded him when he first broke in to the team, but he's well and truly got that back. The three pronged attack is working to perfection, the three together have all the attributes that make the combo one of the more potent strike-forces not only in England but arguably Europe. The pace and movement of Sterling, the guile and vision of Suarez with the clinicalness (is that a word) and class of Sturridge. One of my friends from work who is an Arsenal fan debated with me that Ox is better than Sterling, his conclusion being that Ox was more versatile. Yesterday, Sterling was bought on but played more in a CAM position, and he changed the game. He's become more than just a speed merchant, he's a footballer, the vision for Sturridges goal against Swansea, the ability to move away from challenges and find the space and his first touch has come on leaps and bounds. He's played on both the right and left, and has arguably played in a SS role when Sturridge was out. For me, the lad should be starting for England in the Summer if he maintains this wonderful form from now till the end of the season. 19 years old. The boy has a massive future ahead of him if he continues to work hard. Rodgers is working wonders with him
We should buy players who surenames begins with S .... to make it SASASASASAS etc For that reason, buy Luke Shaw and Shaqiri
Shaqiri is a very reasonable target in the summer. Anyway, sterling. Ox is probably more versatile, but better as a number 10, which llalana is competition for him for England. In terms of wingers, sterling is the best option by far.
Maybe a whole team of ss Steklenberg (sp) Shaw Sketl Sakho Right back Stevie (cheating I know) Suso Shaquri Sterling Sturridge Suarez
I'd make an exception for players who's name begin with S for Lalana... Only one game (I don't see Southampton play much) but what a player!!! He's young as well isn't he? Imagine him behind the likes of SASAS... phoooking frightening
Shelvey? That was a fluke of a game for Lallana...You certainly wouldn't want him playing for Liverpool He is about 25/26 so just coming into his peak. We were just having a debate about whether it should be Henderson or Lallana to start for England in the world cup. That's assuming he sticks with Sturridge, Rooney & Welbeck. Good win for your boys yesterday and you've shaken off that inconsistent tag from last season. Pleased you'll keep Suarez in the champions league next season. Do you honestly think you can win the title or do you think City & Chelsea will have too much?
Really, should be pretty cheap then One game at a time, the title is in their hands, they win their games in hand (City) they'll be above us. Even if we beat both of those teams at home, they could still win the rest of their games and finish ahead of us... Very happy with the progress we've made this season, if we get CL then that will go a long way to keeping Luis and with CL football on offer, we may be able to bring in proper quality in the summer.
Sterling has simply transformed since the infamous Hull game. He was always known for his potential but now we're seeing that - a lot sooner than i expected. He's an example of a young talented English player being coached properly - credit goes to Rafa for signing Sterling and establishing the youth set up. Sterling is not only quick - but he has a football brain. The execution and the decision making still needs improving but the core ability is there. Not only that, he is one of our best players defensively. What a truly devastating attack - all 3 are hard workers, pressing high, pacy, skillful, direct ...
Realistically... ..................................Simon(cheating) Sagna(free).........Skrtel.............Sakho..........Shaw (£18m) ----------------------Stevie (cheat) ------------Suso----------------Shaqiri (£20m) Sterling...............Sturridge................Suarez Just £40m, shouldnt be to difficult with CL money too
If he had a human brain instead- there would be a lot less pregnant women in Merseyside. I like Sterling- he is going to be one fantastic player for us for years to come. Sometimes lacks end product, and first touch- but knows how to make himself a nuisance. Unfortunately I can see his career peaking early. He is based on speed by the time he is 25, he'll probably be on the downslope; but we should get quite a fair few number of seasons of top quality from the lad before then. (assuming no serious injuries). He's quite strong for a small lad too.
Oh, and we can beat Chelsea and City to the title- but it's still unlikely. Beat BOTH of them at home and I will then be a lot more confident. (even though they could both technically still be in front)
Lol true. But I disagree - take away his pace and you do lose a lot but I think he can cope without it. Tactically, positionally aware and intelligent. Also, his dribbling looks sharper and stronger.
Sterling, immense again yesterday and easily the best player on the pitch in the first half. His ability to drift away from players and burst in to space is frightening, and a very good goal yesterday to boot which is good to see. If he learns to finish we have a real player on our hands here, good to see the next talent come through the academy.
I must say my opinion of Sterling has gone up and up all season long. Even my comment from February above is outdated. I think his game has improved dramatically since February- he is, more often than not, making better use of his balls... um... I mean... he is better at first touch, and controlling the ball. He is becoming more and more about more than just speed.
