If - IF - it was to be a choice between survival or the cup win (and I know in the real world it isn't, but lets pretend)

Up until today I have said/ thought Prem survival all the way, but.....

As my girl says, and as I've read in a couple of papers today, a cup win tomorrow will be unforgettable. Like the last 40-odd years, we will in the next 40-odd get relegated, promoted. Be wonderful, be mediocre, be ****e! It;s how we do things.

So. If it was a straight choice. Cup glory and relegation............

    I want cup glory

I, like yourself have finally come round too that way of thinking as well. Look at the way everybody is on a high this weekend.

Still think we will stay up as well tho.

Gil. Don't know how old you are but I was 13 when we last won the cup. I remember everything about that day. Really. Everything.

    It's time for new memories.

    Can't remember much about '85 or '92, but 1973........

I woulod love a cup win Bobby, but playing in the Europa Cup from the championship would be a big setback for us. Our survival is in our hands, and with the close season tansfer activity, we could be in for big changes in personnel. Historically look st Norwich in 85, won a cup got relegated and took years to return after selling off players.

Just don't think we are capable of quick rebuilding to bring us back immediately if we do go down. Similarly, with those changes we could be in for a slowly, slowly rebuild into the top half.

A head over heart decision for me.

i feel the same ,who knows how long it will take to get back into the top flight ,then once the financial buffer has gone then what ,its survival for me over a cup

I understand all the logical arguments, but I'm tired of living on 1973.

    Lets get the silver.

BBP, I was 13. Dad bought a 26" colour TV for the 73 final. Was the TV equivalent of a Rolls Royce at the time. Didnt think it was possible to get as many people in a room to watch a match but like you say the memories are still fresh. Would be very very nice to have some new ones tho.

I've never seen us lift a cup. I want to see us lift a cup. For one glorious shining moment I want to be able to say my team won. We beat the odds, sometimes heart and soul can triumph. I want my son to see Sunderland win a cup and have it touch his heart but most of all for all the thousands of Sunderland fans who have been kicked in the teeth, laughed at, let down and had their hearts broken.

Once again they have backed their team, 20,000 have travelled without a ticket. They have all travelled again in hope more than expectation a fools hope perhaps and for the thousands more who were unable to get tickets or have planted a Sunderland flag in some distant land. More than anything I hope Sunderland win for my fellow supporters. That we can scream and shout and celebrate together, that we can be proud, that we can laugh and cry tears of joy together and have a glorious moment together that no one can ever taken away from us. Say we are Sunderland say we are Sunderland!

Winning the cup then being relegated would be like shagging the worlds most beautiful woman then finding out that shes given you the AIDS!

But you'll always have that glorious moment! Alternatively you could settle and marry a women you grow to hate Over the years and wonder what could have been if only you'd shagged olive oil!

    Beautifully put Tony.

My old head says PL safety first but I totally get where you're coming from.

The passion on these threads the last few weeks has been overwhelming!

I just hope the lads know who they're playing for - some of the greatest supporters in the world!
