A lot of talk about the lad this week after he scored against Man Utd. What is the opinion on him? He's been out on loan for a couple of years now, is he ready to make an impact at Arsenal? Is he the pacy wideman that could prove a curve ball and offer something extra in attack, or is he destined to be more unfulfilled promise?
To be honest i've not seen enough of him to make an opinion. If rumours are true he will rejoining us this summer as he's now entitled to a work permit.
What is he? I thought he was an out an out forward but he seems to have been utilised as a winger/wide forward. His goal return, whilst improving, isn't great and that's whilst playing in "inferior" leagues. There was a massive buzz about him and enough clubs chasing his name so there must be something good. Like Cym though I've not seen enough of him to form an opinion.
He is a striker, but they play him out wide as he has pace apparently. Sounds to me like just what Arsenal need. In the 433 system you can't play CM's out wide - as Arsenal have done with Cazorla and Rosicky - you need more wing forward players like Theo, Pod, Ox, and Campbell fits that bill. I'd like him to get his permit, and be trialed in pre-season. If he doesn't cut it, loan him to a lower PL side to give him the experience and he may be ready the year after.
The thing is with Campbell he's VERY raw. Lots of talent but Im not sure he's developed quite as well as they were hoping. I'm not sure he can get in the team ahead of Walcott and Oxo. Be interesting to see how we could develope at arsenal because he has massive potential.
I don't think any of us are expecting him to come in and immediately set the world alight, but really the team need four quality wide forwards. Theo, Pod, Ox make three, can JC fill that 4th spot role? I doubt he'll get in ahead of the others, but I do think he merits a place in the squad and to be given the chance to train with the first team and prove himself.
Problem for him is that we also have Gnabry in the ranks, and he is no doubt only going to get better next season. So it's not just Walcott,OX and Pod that he has to compete with.
lets just hope that he isnt the only player to join next summer, and that AW actually buys a striker. no offence to the lad but he is all potential and we need established player to play as striker to compete/push Giroud. lets trust AW to bring him home and nuture him to add to the attacking squad that is possibly just 1 out and out striker short. possible attacking squad : out & out striker, Giroud, Podolski, Theo, Ox, Gnarby, Sanago, J Cambell, other additions to this: rumoured/my wish list are Draxler, de Costa, Balatelli, Morata, Benzema,
Campbell has done well on all of his loan spells and performs to a high level for his International team. Checking his stats quickly he has 8 goals in 9 games at U17 level, 10 in 13 for the U21's and 8 in 30 for the senior Costa Rica team. I agree with TheBear, he is very talented but very raw. I'd like to see him get a loan to a premiership team to see how he does.
I've seen him play probably 10-ish times for Betis last season, the Utd game and a few International games. Why? He's one of the loan players i've tried to keep an eye on. Did the same with Ryo, watched a lot of his games in Holland.
