This guy is certainly seen by many as a figure of fun.

But hidden in amongst his apparently arrogant rantings, maybe some grains of truth that could also apply to the way Bristol City have been managed over the last few years?

For example his claims that Mackay overspent on incoming players who proved not to be "value for money taking into account transfer fees and salaries", could also apply to a high percentage of players that have arrived at Ashton Gate since 2007!

There are very few football managers who will not carry on spending someone else's money as a quick fix for either success or to avoid failure.

The stark truth is that you have to ask yourself would you rather see City in the Premiership playing Liverpool in front of 30,000 people or in L2 playing Accrington to just 7,000 because that is the main difference between the owners.

I don't like Tan and I think he's a twat but Cardiff are still a million miles ahead of us today in all respects, even though they play in blue. I also think Lansdown is a twat. He's a rich twat I'll grant you, but money and common sense don't always go hand in hand.

And even if they go down they'll get the £70m parachute payments

Mr Tan is an unstable meglomaniac. The history of the FC he bought under Risdale and Hamman is very different. The question can be is do you think it is acceptable for a club to run in that manner for an extended period, so it needs a foreign nutter with huge wealth to purchase it.

Cardiff deserve Tan. For years they've spent money they don't have in order to land promotion. Looking over their finances, they say they didn't have a choice but to let Tan tear the club apart, but the reality of the situation is that they could have survived without his help. They'd have to strip the team apart, and they'd undoubtedly suffer back-to-back relegations, but they would have survived. Cardiff City let Vincent Tan in because he had a lot of money, and because a bit more money would have pushed them over the top and towards the Premier League.

I really hope that Cardiff City are relegated. They offer nothing to the Premier League. Mainly, I want them to go down because I want to see Tan go absolutely mental when they are back where they started.

    At the moment yes
But consider within the next 4 years if-
Cardiff are relegated, Tan leaves. Totally demoralised, Cardiff end up fighting a rear guard action at the foot of the Div 1 table and flirt with being closed down. They mortgage their ground to survive.

Meanwhile, BC get relegated to Div 2, sign a new manager who has drive, ambition and high end knowledge. He is also a brilliant man manager. He also has a brilliant Owner, who invests 40 million IN THE TEAM, and the manager chooses his own players. City get successive promotions and go to Wembley to contest the FA Cup final AND Play Off final for a place in the Premier League. The rest as they say.....
Who would you rather be in my dream ?

PS - If you'd like to come back to this Planet and deal in reality Cardiff are in a far better position than we are.

Mr Tan has yet to turn debt into equity, or a servicable form long term. The club could disappear if Mr Tan feels the moon is, or some colour is wrong one day.

The point was that in football, as in life, the unexpected can happen
and the world can be turned upside down

Yes Cardiff are on the face of it better off right now-of course they are
But so were Portsmouth and look what happened to them
We've risen from the ashes before, and we can do it again. Sorry mate, I have to believe that, or else whats the point of buying a red and white scarf ?

Just read it....the man is a bloody loony!
He is a fine dictator in the making. I really would be worried if that were my club as I can see it all going tits up with him walking away demanding his money!

What happens when Tan gets bored and walks away?

Actually some Cardiff fans are saying they would rather be where they were before.

'whats the point of buying a red and white scarf ?' - Or paying £600 for a ST and car park.

I agree entirely and sure as hell won't be renewing in L2 next year.

And to think I sponsored them for years as well.

Rickster - Please send me your tablets.

Cheers <ok> though I must admit the 2 hour drive each way is difficult when what is being served up on the pitch is so .... poor (especially for midweek games)

Most of us posters on this board (bored??!?!?!) have no choice - we are City thru & thru and will continue to support our club whatever is thrown at us. But anyone who thinks Cardiff are worse off than us is seriously deluded. Their owner may be barking mad but he's visible and they're in the prem. We're floundering at best.....

Our track record doesn't exactly inspire me with confidence...

Frankly, if we sack Cotterill, I'd like to see the managers job given to a young manager with bright ideas. Someone that wants to play football the right way, and someone that wants to use the academy. Maybe the ex-Malaga guy we've got on the books to handle the academy would be a good shout?

Are we getting a new owner too?

While it's a nice idea to have Lansdown fund a new revolution at the club from the bottom, it simply can't happen. Even if he went back on his own advice and started throwing money at the team, we're now under fairly strict FFP rules. Without fudging the numbers like the big teams do, which would require some huge investment, we can only spend what we earn, and if these forums are anything to go by attendances will be poor in League 2 next season.

In many ways, a full rebuild could be good for us, but then again League 1 was supposed to be a rebuild under an established manager with good credentials and a good history of success.
