I think this is waaaay OTT.
Granted he shouldn't have gone on the pitch... but given the humiliation 3 years is too harsh.
I'd have said till the end of the season max.

    http://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/NEWS/11042958._/?

A FOOTBALL fan who threw his season ticket at Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew in disgust during the Tyne-Wear derby has been banned from attending football matches for three years.

An angry Sean Glendinning ran onto the St James' Park pitch after his team conceded the second of three goals to Sunderland.

Magistrates in Newcastle heard today (Thursday, February 27) how the 25-year-old, of Hollyhill Gardens West, Stanley, County Durham, got to within five feet of the Magpies’ boss after Adam Johnson scored for Sunderland in the 18th minute of the match on February 1.

Sarah Guest, prosecuting, read a statement from a club steward, who tried to catch Glendinning, before he was arrested shortly afterwards.

It said: “The male was running towards Alan Pardew holding his season ticket.

“He ran towards him. I tried to grab him. He was five feet away from Pardew.”

Glendinning pleaded guilty to one charge of going into a playing area designated for a football match and has accepted a three year football banning order.

Ms Guest said: “The season ticket had been dropped near the dugout.

“It was obviously a highly charged atmosphere on derby day.”

Glendinning, who was not represented by a legal advisor, said he wanted to publicly protest at the home team’s poor performance.

He said: “I was angry. It was the spur of the moment. It was stupid.”

Connor Grieves, 22, of Lees Street, Stanley, also pleaded guilty to going into a playing area designated for football matches during the same match, but is opposing a three year football banning order. A separate hearing has been arranged for him on April 3.

Daniel Orrick, 21, of Hertford, Gateshead, admitted going into a playing area designated for football matches and as well as £200 fine, £85 costs and a £20 victim surcharge he has accepted a three year football banning order.

Northumbria Police made a total of 11 arrests, including the three men who went onto the pitch and three as part of a planned operation before the match, with others for public order offences in the city centre afterwards.

Hmmm, so he wanted to throw away his ticket and his punishment is a ban. He might be quite happy with that.

suppose that's one way of not renewing your ticket

wonder if he was on a 10 year deal ???

as the club may pursue him for breach of contract

    A year for each goal?

Still seems harsh, but I suppose they want to deter this sort of thing. I can't remember if the SAFC fans who taunted Shay Given after the Richardson free kick at the SoL a few years back got a ban. They may be more sensitive in Newcastle after the riot/horse punching thing last April though.

I think your lad was banned Sid.
The other SAFC lad who invaded the pitch and assaulted Harper was banned for life I think as well as being criminally prosecuted by the Police.

Fair enough, I suppose. Invading the pitch is a no-no. No-one knows if you're doing it for the craic or you're a nutter out to do harm...

Totally agree, they can't take any chances these days when there have been players and refs assaulted on the pitch.

That said, I did have a tiny chuckle at the one who kicked the ball - but only because it was like he was trying to show our players how to do it.

    Agreed.
With a streaker... I laugh my head off and see the funny side... hell.. if it's a lass I even study the form... but like with the Anelka thing the FA/Clubs have to have strict parameters in place otherwise people will just run amock.

If I'm totally honest I always wanted to streak at a football match in a Mankini and Borat wig.

I can't remember which it was, either the chronicle or the journal, but it said that the chap rejected the chance to appeal the 3 year football ban because "it'll be a lot cheaper now" <laugh>

On the Anelka situation ACS mentioned, what a load of absolute bullknackers. Utter codswallop the guy gets banned. Shearer's celebration is closer to a Nazi salute ffs. An inverted Nazi solute?! What utter ****. Basically that means as far removed from a Nazi salute as possible, yet the attention-seeking morons are willing to get offended on behalf of someone else again (and the minority who are "offended are actually using this to further their political agenda and awareness campaigns)... David Baddiel summed it up in his stupid interview. He has no idea who this french comedian is, he's just heard some distorted "facts" from the media and assumes everything is anti-jew. Shame on him, and shame on anybody who supports the genuinely fascist machine that perpetrated this ban <ok>

It'd be like banning Shola from using a typing celebration if he ever scored a goal, in homage to me, his favourite not606 user... Who happens to be quite the Mackem-basher... Basically, there will come a point when somebody wakes up and gives everybody a good slap and says "remember the rhyme, sticks and stones, now grow up you **** and stop crying".

I would have agreed about the Anelka thing untill you read about. seemingly these ****ers picture themselves doing that gesture at Austwich etc. On the euro mainland it is a well know gesture.

How is it a well known gesture??? Every report I have read said that it was gesture made-up by Marcel, and used as his trademark. If something similar exists in a different light, so what? Does that mean Hindu's are not allowed to use their symbol because the Nazi's corrupted it as the swaztika? If Anelka says he meant no offence by the gesture, and Marcel says he means no offence by the gesture, it's pathetic taking offence, or looking for ways to be offended by it.
