hmmm, I don't like mid-season announcements unless its january signings! Look at Manure announcing that the club captain Vidic will be leaving in summer, complete madness and team morale has flat-lined. Next they will be announcing Moyes won't be staying on after his 5-year contract comes to an end! <cheers>
Anyway leave it till summer give him a 2 year extension, and a decent transfer kitty and i'm sure he will be more than happy.

  2. A new contract for the manager should be done prior to Christmas or in the summer, the latter stages is for football and football alone.

    Unity and intent?
I think everyone knows Pool fans are happy with the manager and that you, so far, intend to keep him on as manager.
Not quite sure how premature contract talks will do anything.

Normally, I think things like this such be done at the end of the season - you can't justify offering a new contract based on the past 6 months. Anything can happen until now and the end of the season - we could still finish outside of the top 4, we could still finish behind Utd.

However ... Rodgers is quickly making a name for himself and is becoming a man in demand. Are there any teams who could poach him? Mourinho will be at Chelsea, Wenger at Arsenal, Man City aren't known their patience and if Pellegrini fails this season, they could be after Rodgers? ...

In conclusion ... I don't know what we should do. :)

  9. As I said, what if his original contract was for X per week but with a clause saying he would get Y per week if he gets us CL football? Or a new pre-negotiated deal? He may well be all set for a bumper deal in the summer if we get top four anyway.

I would assume that a deal is done in principle..
They (FSG and Rodgers) are just waiting until the end of the season to announce.
Regardless where we finish, we've shown great improvement this season, results wise, player progression wise, even been decent enough in the transfer market.
Hope he goes an extension and more of a transfer kitty.

I think it would be best left until the end of the season. If we get 4th and CL then to give the manager a contract extension sends out a message to any players we try and sign that LFC want Rodgers for the long term and if the player we are after likes the way we play under Rodgers then it could swing a deal. Assuming the player is having to decide between several clubs all offering the roughly the same salary, etc.
