Well I don't know what figure religion put on it, but I do know religion was out on the world being flat and at the centre of the universe. Ancient scientists and philosophers said that too: the difference being, as Liv points out, is that science corrects itself when faced with enquiry and evidence.

So anything that can't be instantly explained validates religion? No wonder those statues and icons 'weep' and 'bleed'. Miraculously, d'accord.

Check again. If worth commenting, I was there. CCC had a good idea with this thread but unfortunately it attracted the touchy clanish people rather than the rational independent-minded ones. Jimmy, TGOA, Danilo they would have done this thread a service, but they know better.

    Get what i'm saying?

There's that cliche again, wonder how you would know about that little bit from this forum if you were new eh? The names you mentioned probably agreed with you, names you left off didn't #clique

I think you'll find that whilst the Catholic Church can be blamed for many things, they also devoted lots of time, effort and money on both sponsoring and undertaking scientific efforts. As for science cleansing itself well that's bollocks! It's how society reacts to the new findings that will regulate the adoption of sciences findings.

Hear now this, O foolish people, and without understanding; which have eyes, and see not; which have ears, and hear not

Sorry, couldn't help it... Read back, apparently I'm religious so I thought I'd try saying the same thing......again...only in bible speak.

Which Religion DD, Islam had some of the finest scientific minds, huge libraries etc at one point in time...The Egyptians, Greeks and Romans made large advances in mathematics at a time when they were still making sacrifices to their Gods: their scholars were not outside of their religions: that would have been impossible at the time.

It's a fairly modern concept this separation of church and science. While we may consider our discoveries the most astonishing they were built on advances of those times.
