This! I never cared about England after the Shearer picks the squad and wouldn't play with Phillips. This just totally confirms my thoughts. Why would I, as a Sunderland fan, care about an England side that constantly overlooks our players? Roy's an idiot and a puppet hence he was chosen over 'arry who was most people's first choice (tho I have no time for the sour faced ponce). How foster, ruddy, Cole, caulker, g.Johnson, cleverley, lampard, milner, welbeck and defoe have made it in there is beyond me. They're all there on misconceived reputations alone and nothing to do with form or even ability imo. You'd think we'd have learned by now. if super kev couldn't get into the squad on the back of two outstanding seasons, if bent was encouraged to leave the north east to get international recognition, there's no chance of the likes of Johnson, or colback getting into the squad while playing for us. If I'd been snubbed for any of these players I'd publicly announce my retirement from England now. **** the national team. They're an embarrassment anyway on and off the field. I'm gonna get me a minnows to support this year seeing as even Sweden couldn't make it as far as the finals.
I'll be watching every game at the World Cup, as I always do. I am keeping an eye out for Belguim though as I like the look of them, a young team with class players. England will just be another game.
Anyone hear Roy saying "There was competition for places in the wide areas" and that's why Johnson wasn't picked. He even mentioned Johnson! The 2 most in form wingers at present are Adam Johnson and Raheem Stirling. One is right footed, the other is left footed. Even Mike Bassett would've picked them - but Roy would rather go with 17 games 1 goal no assists Andros Townsend because he's obviously a much better player?!? Roy can **** off for me. Johnson has been working so hard to get into the England set up and this could do one of 2 things (as Cest said I think) - if it has a detrimental effect on him then it's massively bad news for us - if he decides "I'll show you what you're missing" then great for us - hopefully it's the latter. For me there is zero competition for this position - he was player of the month last month for a reason. He has been playing well - the one time Roy saw him we had a man sent off after 4 minutes and nullified his game - if he judges on that then he truly knows nothing about football.
He's England manager -surely that goes without saying Personally, never had any interest in the England team - it's always been about which club you play for and not ability Didn't watch any of the games of the last WC and very much doubt I'll bother with this year's either
I am not Sterlings biggest fan at all but encorporating Welbeck, Sterling, Townsend and Walker into the side could offer us blistering pace when attacking. Welbeck has played well for England so I have no issue with his selection as an England fan. Defoe's selection is a joke, as is Cleverley's, neither of these players have performed well for either club or country recently so their selection is puzzling. As for Adam Johnson, yes his form has suggested he deserves a shot so that one is also puzzling. Best put that down to Hodgson being a stupid ****. I'd disagree with you about Smalling, I think as a back up he offers options across the back four and he's shown glimpses of class recently. He has been part of a makeshift back four for the entire season and his positon has chopped and changed, do that with any defender in the world and you'll see their flaws and they'll make mistakes.
Good lad! I'll be supporting Belgium and really hope they can instill a winning mentality into the team. It's the only think lacking at the moment.
