I don't want to talk about politics because that is worse then the name change but why go on about unemployed people when Hull has one of the highest levels of unemployment ? I think Hull is a great place but in terms of employment it isn't

Ah yes, and Ed Balls wisely stored up our reserves rather than squandering money like it was going out of fashion <laugh>.

Don't think it ever has been.

Ports often had a lot of unskilled labour and a dearth of 'brainy' jobs or jobs that involve making things, hence the Siemens gamechanger.

Shame we never got Nissan- guess whose fault that was?

    - GDP per capita is fairly similar across developed European countries:

    (IMF 2012)

    Germany 41,866
    France 41,223
    United Kingdom 39,161
    Italy 33,115
    European Union 32,518
    Spain 27,670
    Greece 22,072

We currently have more or less the same GDP growth rate as Germany

    - Our inflation rate is good, the Bank of England sets a target of 2.0% and we hit that in December. Low inflation is actually preferable to no inflation due to factors such as the downward stickiness of wages, and maintaining a decent interest rate which will encourage at least some saving. Inflation is not really seen as a problem unless it's very high or unpredictable which leads to problems with business and investor confidence by reducing certainty.

    - Unemployment is lower than France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece and not that much higher than Germany (7.5% to 5%)

We really aren't doing too badly at the moment. I don't support any political party but the Conservative monetary and fiscal policies have been successful IMO. To compete with Germany more it is the attitude of the nation which needs to change to become more hard working and therefore more productive and not to choose to not work which increases the rate of natural unemployment.

When you look at the above indicators, however, it is the Scandinavian countries which are being most successful. Higher growth, GDP per capita, better distribution of income, better living standards etc. Should we be following their lead and taking higher taxes? I think it is too difficult to change the attitude of the nation to do something similar to them and there would be lots of questions over how money was spent given how previous governments have been extremely inefficient. There is also the problem of us not having anywhere near the natural resources that they have and depending on the Scotland situation that could get even worse.

Yes. Now the FA Cup gets more serious.

TV again calling the tune. Plus Sky have a PL game Live on saturday @ 5.30pm Chelsea v. Tottenham.

Just under 42,000 was the gate for the 1971 FAC 6th round home game with Stoke City which we had a 2-0 lead thanks to Waggy. Lost 2-3 in the end.
I was in the well by 1.30pm that day and jammed packed in even then. Crazy days but fun.

You started off so well then faded out. Thanks for your cash mind.

I'm struggling to think of a city or even town in this country that beats Sunderland in the 'one horse town' category.

**** me, it's like Goole without the nightlife, and peopled by bipolar doleys.

    Howay man.
