ah ****e, they brought that up on qi, i think its bollocks, but cant remember. i know they have the thing in holland on the width of the house which is why they are all thin and tall and you got taxed on, but think the windows one is false.
The window tax is true. Late 1800's I think. Many houses from the period have bricked window frames. Owners bricked in windows rather than pay tax.
fair enough, wonder what i ****ing heard then have to keep an eye out for that specific programme again, i may have mis heard, but i know it was to do with the window tax somehow, and usually with qi its a myth somehow what people assumed was the case, but no evidence to actually support it. obviously you have provided a link, just wonder why i remembered it.
There is another comedy programme (cant remember what its called) that talks about these kind of things. The audience is asked the to present something, the panel of comedians then discuss it before researchers/scientists determine whether its true or not.
I've got Windows 8 it's hard to get used to - I like the voice activated search feature - as Hoke said you can bypass the windowsy thing and go straight to desktop. It shuts down all the time as well to install updates, XP used to do it overnight, haven't found a way round that if there is one!
No, that's been done too. The Amazonians taxed boobs. That's why Amazon warriors chopped a boob or two off to save a few bob.
