Ferrari's top speed of 336kmph was incorrect it's been discovered as the transponder was recording faulty. Actual speed was 309, leaving Mercedes miles ahead in engine speed

Would make sense that the data was incorrect as he was miles quicker than any other car, and epsecially that of Raikkonen.

Gary Anderson predicts F1's pecking order
please log in to view this image

AUTOSPORT's technical expert GARY ANDERSON takes a look behind the lap times from last week's Bahrain test and gives his verdict on the teams so far

It's too early to start drawing any definitive conclusions on the relative performance of Formula 1's 2014 cars. But by taking the fastest lap achieved by each car during last week's four-day Bahrain test, it's possible to get a few clues as to who looks hot and who doesn't.

As usual, I've converted the figures into a percentage deficit to the fastest time (Nico Rosberg's final-day lap of 1m33.283s). This allows you to make comparisons not just on one circuit, but also over varying lap lengths and with historical data.

FASTEST TIMES IN BAHRAIN (AS PERCENTAGE)

*As Kevin Magnussen's fastest McLaren time was set on supersoft rubber, Jenson Button's final-day lap on softs, just 0.057s slower, has been used. This was effectively a faster lap as it was on slower rubber.

Last year, the average lap-time performance step between each compound of tyre was around 0.4 seconds. I will use that figure rather than the specific differences from Bahrain, which did vary from team to team.

So taking the above, and equalising for the different tyre compounds that we actually know about, we now have:

Fuel load makes a big difference to lap time, roughly 0.33 seconds per 10kg. But with the cars limited to a maximum of 100kg, between a low-fuel run of 10kg and a race-start fuel load of 100kg there should only be a maximum difference of three seconds - or, based on Mercedes' fastest time, 3.216 per cent.

So is everyone other than Mercedes sandbagging and running their cars with loads more fuel? I don't think so........

The entire Formula 1 fans after the second pre-season test wonders: What's going on with the world champion Red Bull?
Helmut Marko: We are facing complex challenges that can only be resolved in cooperation with engine partner - with Renault.

What kind of problems, in particular? It is only the energy recovery or something more?
HM: It's about the entire drive unit. Unfortunately with stagger from one problem for another. Quite obviously lagging behind schedule.

What else can be addressed before the final test on Thursday in Bahrain and then before the start of the season in Melbourne?
HM: It's open and you can not predict if we all manage to start the season. Bahrain will follow the third test in which go with the corresponding evolution. But as I said, it's all very complicated.

Do the other teams Renault - Toro Rosso, Lotus and Caterham - basically the same problems or are troubled with something else?
HM: The problems are essentially identical and are experienced across all teams.

Do you think that Red Bull riders in Melbourne will see the checkered flag?
HM: Problems with new engines, all, everyone has to fight with the new situation. I Mercedes and Ferrari are experiencing their troubles, but they have a different development.

Have Red Bull ever happened that season started without tests missed the race distance?
HM: Yes, we once did. But I repeat: we can not hang his head, looking back, but we must look forward.

    http://forums.autosport.com/topic/191766-renault-problems-are-catastrophic/?p=6596409

'For those interested. Here are some of the changes Renault have made since Jerez.

Change of battery cell provider. The individual cells that make up the Energy Store have individual over-charge and over-discharge protection. These were proving unreliable due to thermal/vibration issues. Whilst the energy store is sealed in our fitment, I am informed the cells are now supplied by Panasonic.

Change to MGU-K to Crank drive gearing. The original torque multiplication factor was calculated to give a wider spread of torque on acceleration. Track testing found that this was causing traction dificulties and overloading the gearset and causing failure of the crank casing.

Change to turbocharger wastegate function. Renault had originally intended for the H to regulate Turbine speed in 95%+ of normal running. They facilitated this by allowing the H to pull charge (when the energy store was at capacity) to an air cooled heat sink. This strategy proved ineffective in certain environments and a more coventional wastegate is now being used to supplement the H.

Due to both the change in K gear ratio, boost control strategy and the energy store, most of the software relating to the charge and discharge cycling has been modified daily and continues to be refined. There are still issues relating to turbine speed control via H but these are mostly to do with fine tuning of the control software and the syncronisation between H control and wastegate control.

There has been swift progress and software related driveability now appears to be the main issue.'

    And later posts:

Re the H to K transfer.
There are times when you can't (or wouldn't want to) transfer power from the H to the K but still need to limit turbo speed.

Think along the lines of a short burst of accel then slight decel then accel (such as feathering throttle for traction or in a switch back). The last thing the driver would want is for the K to feed power into driveline.

During those transitional situations Renault wanted to control the speed of the turbo by using the H to maintain shaft speed at or close to max rpm. It turned out (partly because of the driveability issues) that H was dumping to the heatsink far more than had been predicted or modeled. This was causing severe heat related issues in some cars at Jerez and the Renault 'patch' was to disable the H entirely and rely on the mechanical wastegate for the remainder of the test.

Obviously this resulted in dramatically increased lag and reduced performance but allowed some mileage to be put on the ICE.

In the interests of transparency it should be disclsclosed that we have had no first hand experience with the original spec PU used in Jerez.

Our running experience started with a version that had basic H functioning and limited K output.

    This is just too good!

Kimi only 12 laps while 3 Renault engines have gone faster or longer.

I doubt it as you only have to look at the miles done and race sims completed by Mercedes, still I believe the only team able to do it.
