No way would Valdes come from 1st choice at Barca to 2nd choice here! If he came he'd be first choice but just think it would be quite a short term fix. Yes keeps can play on a lot older, but at 33, we'd prob only get a couple of years before he starts going downhill. Just think we need to stick with Mig and give him another couple of years to prove he can develop into a top keeper.

Ok, I know where you are coming from but it smacks of wants not reality of our finances or the speed in which we can with those finances build a team from 8th to winners and regular CL performers.

FSG we know has implemented some kind of performance related model whether it's mine or not. They already been burned by joining the splash the cash brigade when they have very finite resources.

Your example of Mata is a flawed starting point because of this. Chelsea can (or could) afford to pay 39 players they bought 100k a week just to get them here because they were seen by the experts of the day as CL quality. Mata worked so his wages could be justified. Torres????? We could probably go down chelseas buys ticking of players to support our views.

Now their model works for them because they can afford the losses (removing FFP for the moment) that's why their success was fairly instantaneous and without FF P, for them sustainable.

We simply can not do it that way and to try risks ruin. Christ we haven't even proven we can sustain performance at top 4 domestically yet, never mind competing rather than just turning up in the CL league. The reality is if the finances aren't there it may be one year in, one year out for a while. As long as it's not just us but 3 or 4 teams swapping 2 CL spots then we''ll attract, like those other 3 the players.

Now I'm not being negative, those are still the ultimate goals but we can't just after this many years out of it, recently recovered from financial strife and in (possibly) year 1 back in CL start yelling roll up roll up, everyone gets a 100k a week that joins us.

We just got rid of a pile of tosh all on big money for nothing. We can't afford even 3 mistakes at those prices....

In short what I'm saying is, you may be right with your pricing of the majority of CL standard players Mito but it doesn't mean we are in the right position yet to gamble on them.

And as such, I'll take a couple of years of CL instability to build the teams quality slowly but surely.

Valdes won't come to be a number 2. And we won't want a number 2 who is on high wages after we shifted Pepe last season.

Persist with Mignolet, let him develop and put a defence and midfield in front of him who instill confidence. Confidence breeds more confidence. At the moment, everyone in the back line including Migs simply do not trust one another.

And where have these Isco rumours come from? Cracking player, no doubt but I don't want us to be spending mega money on individual players.

The strategy we have now is good - but if we get CL, we can raise the level a bit higher. We were already targeting Mkhtiarayan, Costa, Willian, Kono without CL. If we did get CL, it means we can buy more players in this bracket rather than dipping into the Aspas bracket...

matuidi (spelling) psg player has signed a contract ext until 2018, know it don't mean much, but he is probably on good money now, so those who would have liked him probably a no go.

not impressed with the value though, guess that's the way things are now days sadly.

  9. The fee is high but my main concern is the club he belongs to. They'll want Suarez in return!

Add 70mil and we might start talking.

Although I believe if we make CL Suarez will stay if the club invests in some more quality players (Isco or not).

  11. Lost the cog about four weeks ago <laugh>

Suarez declared his desire to play for one of Barca or Real when he joined us so I don't think it will be any different should we get top four. I assume you meant £70m + Isco?

    Yeah 70 + Isco.

I honestly believe Suarez will stay with us if we get top 4 and show some intent in the transfer window. He actually looks settled in Liverpool now, and has matured so much. He'll move on eventually, I just think he'll at least have a season more for us if we get CL.

  13. I believe he will stay unless one of those two clubs cough up.

I think he'll stay for one season if we get CL.

I know you can't believe everything you read but it seems like he wants to experience playing in the CL with us and walking out at Anfield with the music playing.

  15. I think he will stay but purely because neither of those clubs will stump up the amount needed for us to let him go.

not so convinced with barca. reckon they will try a couple of player deals in with £40-50 mill odd thrown in,although real could do the same.

remember both these clubs like to out do each other, and barca havent said much have they about wanting him?

is intriguing which player from each team he would replace and also who the other player could be if 2 are used as a sweetener.

  17. I have no doubt they will try something, I just don't see either coughing up the £80m+ it would take.

Suarez will be good enough for a starting position with us for the rest of his career imo, that is the beauty of him. Unlike ballerina Torres.

    #458
  19. TBF, you wouldn't have called Torres' down turn prior to it happening

true but I still never thought he would still be a star at 30 years old, whereas Suarez has the capability to be great for a long time
