I'm a daily reddit lurker now, thanks to you and TTSF. I just had to share that because I spent about ten minutes imagining how much fun it would be. If I ever get to the States I'll be spending at least a few days in Indy, so Illinois is just down the road, I'll definitely be going there.

It looks like quite a dull part of the country, that whole central-northern bit. My problem is that I would love to do a road trip from east coast to west coast (starting in Maine), but I'd much rather travel through the southern states than through the endless suburbs of Ohio, endless suburbs of Indiana, endless suburbs of Illinois, etc, just for a couple of fairly cool places along the way. Then continuing west from there you're just going through endless forests and fields of Iowa, Nebraska, the Dakotas and all that nonsense. I can only hope they build some more of these soccer-golf courses in some slightly more happening locations.

Ah but my Indy trip would be purely sports inspired. That said, I'd think Chicago has a lot on, so popping in there would be alright? That is until you get to the big Nebraska-y pile of complete nothingness states, that doesn't scream "fun holiday" very much.

I'd love to include Chicago but then my trip would have to look something like this:

I mean that would also include the soccer-golf, so now that's two reasons to make that detour, but still, hell of a detour.

Shelling out about £150 for a NOLA to Chicago flight for a day of soccer-golfing and exploring Chicago is pretty good value. Means you can avoid going through Kansas which is always a plus. Also I'd be too tempted to pop into Mexico to visit Chihuahua.

Another thing about the States, I'd try to set myself a challenge of eating exclusively in restaurants that have appeared on Man vs Food. I don't know how long it'd take me to have a heart attack, but it'd be worth it.

Yes, that was already part of the plan.

I too would love to do East to West coast, but I'd probably do a similar route to you Joe except from Nashville, I'd probably head north to Chicago and Minneapolis (catch a Vikings game) before making my way south via Denver and Salt Lake City, before rejoining your route at Vegas.

Vegas is good, but New York is better.

This. I've been to both places and New York is definitely better.

But Vegas has (I assume) a higher standard of hookers, which is quite important.

I went to both for two weeks. Vegas gets boring after a while, were as New York has so much to do. I took a coach ride to the Rocky(Balboa) steps while I was there.

Also has annoying guys that follow you around asking to be your guide when ever you walk past a hotel.

New York is a cool place to be, but really a day out there is similar to a day out in London except public services are way worse. Also Times Square is so naff. I'd rather experience something we can't get here.

You been to NY? Problem with Vegas is it far too cheesy and fake.

Tbf, NY is already on mine and Joe's itinary.

I went to NY for the day once and it was quite cool but didn't see that much tbh. Saw the Rockefeller Center, Central Park and had lunch in the Hardrock Cafe, but can't really remember seeing that much else. Although we did come down from upstate NY so it took a while to get there. That was back when I tried to do a trans-Atlantic relationship. Needless to say, it didn't work. Although it did introduce me to several really good songs.

Didn't say it wasn't. All I did say was I liked NY far better then Vegas.

Well the real Las Vegas doesn't have Cazadors, so yeah probably.

I'd love to check out the West Coast, especially up in the North West. Again sports-inspired, but then I'd love to hop across the border and see Vancouver too.
