Thanks for posting this hobo. I don't want do disrespect other clubs in this league but is does seem strange to be playing some of them, gives you an idea on just how far we have fallen. I'm trying hard to look on the bright side so maybe, just maybe by this time next week we may have some positive news coming out of HP.
I was just thinking that Reid-all-about-it. I was also thinking of Oxford U and wondering if Maclean will be joining them...
Some new grounds to see and a nice trip out for Boxing Day, just glad to see us on the fixture list anything is a bonus from here.
Optimist or pessimist......... Lets really go for the optimist one. We could be promoted by Christmas.
sensible...........A bit of reality please in your optimism........Boxing day is 22 games......maximum points possible....66pts. You might have to get all romantic and wait until Valentines day.......Barnet..........31 games.......maximum points possible.....93pts. But of course me being a doom and gloom merchant I might put a spanner in the works and suggest that we might draw a few and have to wait until March. Pessimism is a depressing ailment to have, so I'll be happy to be reasonably safe ( from DS's prediction of the Conference next season) by the end of March from relegation.
Really expect nothing less than top 6 and attendences to be 10,000+. Need to hit the ground running in August as Shrewsbury will be a good bench mark. Not that means alot having beaten Southampton last season on the opening day....the rest is History.
You could have your figures the wrong way around GreenMat...............top10.......attendence figure 6000+........would help lay the trauma of last season.
See, lack of imagination plymborn yet again. We win all our matches and the rest lose one and draw all the rest. That makes us 45 points clear by Christmas. What's difficult about that?
Whats difficult about that is your nowhere near being promoted at Christmas as you clearly stated s-greeny. With 24 games still to play there is still 72 pts available for other teams to catch and pass us, OK that means a disastrous run in for Argyle, but by jove we've shown that we are more than capable of doing that. Even your imagination should be able to grasp that that is mathmatically possible. My lack of imagination finds it hard to accept that any team will start the season with 22 straight wins,a great feat if it can be done. It certainly won't be Argyle doing it with the players that will be cobbled together to make up are twenty man squad this season. Pessimism verses Optimism, the reality is somewhere in the middle.......top ten would be an acceptable season following three years of disaster.
Yea I know but then we can dream can't we? "It certainly won't be Argyle doing it with the players that will be cobbled together". Why? We don't even know who the 20 will be yet. I used to look at the league enviously at times when a team went on a wild run of winning and were mega points clear of the rest. I used to think "why not Argyle ever". Then one day it was our turn when we went on our 2 promotions in 3 years. The feeling was fantastic and even though, being an Argyle fan for many years, I thought the bubble was bound to burst as it was Argyle after all, it didn't. Do you remember the euphoria at every game you went to watch? Why can't it be us again is all I am saying even though nobody expects anything great from us next season. I wasn't expecting anything much from the season I refer to above at the start. Have you ever been into a bookies and placed a bet on a horse and not expected it to win? If you have no faith then it is pointless betting on it in the first place.
torquay fan here looking forward to renewing our friendly rivalry this year, expecting you too challenge near the top,but who knows yet? down your place january 2nd looking forward too that as well, good luck for the season
I reckon Maclean will still be there, they love him up here in Oxford. He's done ok from what ive seen but still appears to have that lazy attitude
Nice to see some of the local games on a saturday, also looking forward to the rovers game on boxing day!
I bet it'll be a bit weird seeing Crawley, Accrington, Cheltenham, Morecambe, Macclesfield, etc at Home Park next season!
Not really strange viking we have been here before and we have to play somebody from somewhere. Some of the names are bound to have changed over the years and with the league system of promotions and relegations there are bound to be new ones. Don't consider Argyle to be too big to play anyone and never have. We are where we are and have to play the other teams in our league whoever they are. All teams in this league have to play each other and all start with nil points on the first day. Just happy to still be in the fixture list of any league currently.
I also look forward to our rivalry returning next season, as for your prediction of us challenging near the top of the league well most would be happy with us keeping our heads above water for next season. Be interesting to see how you guys recover from Paul Buckle's departure though, been to your pre season games against us and loved the passing football you played under his leadership.
I am looking forward to a friendly rivalry with Torquay U. Much better than dealing with the scum up the road...LOL. COYG!
