Nice one smart arse. I'll amend to: At least he offers us something different that could potentially benefit the team to what we've already got. Clear enough for you?
All our signings will be done on the quiet and free agents. The real quality will hopefully come in the loan market. Quite happy if we can get Adebola and McKenna in the next couple of days as they will be useful squad members.
Age is irrelevant. If he's fit, then he's fine. Whether he's the right quality is open to debate. He certainly was, time will tell if he still is. Whether he's the right type of centre forward we need is surely absolutely blindingly obvious to everyone and has been all last season. We've got four forwards who have bags of the sort of qualities you need, pace, movement and finishing for a start. What we desperately need is height, strength and the ability to rough up dirty, ugly centre halves. We could've spent a million quid on someone who'd be a complete question mark, someone like Darius Henderson for a start. Big front men with quality don't grow on trees. The only other quality big front man I've seen move this summer is Marlon King and no-one would've wanted him back. Taking the same squad that finished 11th last season, adding the missing piece up front, the defensive midfielder and leader we need, a young left back and a quality goalkeeper is pathetic? Some people will never be happy. Not to mention that the squad will have Oily back in. It's obviously stronger.
I looked on a Liverpool board, yesterday, to see if there was any mention of Ayala. There was: 1) Derby are quite keen on getting him back on loan; 2) Liverpool should keep him as fourth choice for his spot; 3) No mention of us!
Of course age is relevant, or perhaps you think people retain their fitness and recover their fitness equally well at 36 as they do at 26? As for quality, well not sure what you mean there. If you are going to rely on humping long balls up to a big cart-horse standing on the oppo penalty spot so that someone MIGHT get a sniff at the second ball, to get results, then yes I see your point. If you want a player to use a bit of skill to outwit a defender and get a shot off on target, or charge into the penalty area a get his head to a telling cross, or harry defenders when they try and play it out of defence then you certainly haven't got a point. Can't believe how many people are pretending this is a good signing. Didn't anyone on here go to Wembley and witness the guy first hand? I'm sorry but if Wayne Brown was able to outwit and out-pace him 3 years ago, why on earth would anyone be optomistic about him signing for us now? "We've got four forwards who have bags of the sort of qualities you need, pace, movement and finishing for a start" Who is that then? Fryatt is a good striker but has no pace, Stewart has pace but Pearson doesn't fancy him in the centre, Simpson has everything a striker needs but hasn't yet shown the scoring ability we need and McLean simply isn't good enough for the Championship, hard as he tries.
When it was first suggested that we might sign Dele Adebola someone suggested the song to the tune of My Old Mans a Dustman ( now this tune is driving me nuts) dele ad a bol of curry. Its more reality!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and some people are happy too easily. we were meant to sign 7 players to help strengthen, names like danns, mannone, ayala, greening, norris, iwelumo, to name a few. compare those to the 2 'confirmed' players we have signed... and you say "some people are never happy" ? too bloody right mate
You have listed names that we were rumoured to be interested in, nobody from the club confirmed these would be signing 4 us! Could have been complete nonsense and more than likely just paper talk!
AND: anyone coming in would mainly be dependant on us getting shut of JB, Olly, Killer and Ghilas, in order to free up funds - either for a fee and/or wages.
Not entirely True. Danns, Mannone, Norris and Ayala were/are targets as quoted by the Club, unless you think Adam Pearson talks complete nonsense.
Actually, we have confirmed making offers to Danns and Norris. I think Mannone is moving up the pecking order at the Gooners and is probably out the running now, but I haven't given up on Ayala yet.
Big Dele did a job for us a few years back (even if he did miss a sitter against you guys at wembley) if his legs have still got life in he will do a job for you guys. His physical presence often turns defenders into jelly when he comes on, so as an impact sub providing theres fuel in the tank a decent signing for any championship team! Good luck next season fancy meeting at wembley again next may?
The thing that concerns me is the ticking clock. The off-loading of Bullard, and Oilyvagina (if it happens at all) won't happen until it is too late for us to use those additional funds to source the kind of quality we are going to nee to be competitive next season. That's what I am finding REALLY frustrating!
Since leaving you, he's scored 4 goals in 2 seasons. That isn't the making of a quality striker who is to rectify our goal scoring problems. Naturally, I'll give him a chance, but I think it's very likely he'll be used as an impact subsitute when needed. Or as a desperate replacement if we have two or three strikers injured. Can't see him starting many at the age of 36 - (supposedly 36)
He's younger than Barmby and he still does a job for us. I think he'll only be used in certain circumstances, he's not going to be in the starting XI and I don't think it's that big a deal.
I wasn't saying his age would prevent him doing a job for us, but I have concerns about his ability both as an impact substitute and a starter (as rare as that may be). His less than impressive goalscoring record over the past few years also gives me reason to be sceptic over his signing.
